Fairfield University is pleased to be launching a new Center for Arts and Minds, beginning summer 2024, with a primary purpose of raising the academic profile and intellectual discourse of the University through the coordination of high-caliber artistic, cultural and educational programs offered at its performing arts center, museum galleries, bookstore, and other campus venues. The Center will partner with the Special Assistant to the President for the Arts, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Fairfield University Art Museum, the Quick Center for the Performing Arts and other academic centers to engage students, faculty, and community members in the University’s program offerings. Additionally, the Center will connect Fairfield University to the broader artistic community within an around the tri-state area through innovative and mutually beneficial partnerships.
In its inaugural year, the Center for Arts and Minds is seeking a creative and experienced Assistant Director to complete the Center’s leadership team and support the Executive Director in the development and implementation of a vision and strategy to elevate the arts, broadly defined, at Fairfield University.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Assistant Director will assist in coordinating the center’s activities and overseeing an inclusive, integrated, interdisciplinary, and proactive team of staff and contributors to the Center’s initiatives. Critical to the Center’s success will be the publication of print materials, including but not limited to an Arts & Minds Brochure, a Cultural Events Calendar, and philanthropic guides, that reflect the quality of the Jesuit Catholic educational enterprise at Fairfield University.
Successful candidates will demonstrate a background in and appreciation for the arts, and an understanding of the unique aspects of working in a higher education environment. Extensive experience in communication, project management, publication, and promotion are required. Successful candidates will also evidence the ability to contribute to the creation and management of a comprehensive strategy to promote multi-venue arts programming, and the capacity to work with constituents and stakeholders across campus to advance that strategy. They will have experience working in a complex communications ecosystem and will demonstrate superior oral and written communication skills.
Specific role definition and responsibilities for the Assistant Director will be determined over the course of the Center’s first year depending on individual skill sets and the evolving needs of the Center. Salary and benefits for each will be commensurate with education and years of experience
Interested applicants should have:
- At least five years of experience as a project management
and/or communications professional within a higher-education or
non-profit environment.
- Proven ability to develop reports, manage a budget, and master
project management and editorial software products.
- Demonstrated capacity to write engaging, long form stories and
other communications
- Proven experience working within a team of integrated
professionals to produce print materials, magazines and
brochures.
- Strong editing and proofreading skills, to copyedit and
proofread written materials, guiding them through to print and
distribution
- Experience in developing and producing development and
fundraising materials in a non-profit setting.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the proven capacity to
develop working partnerships within and in relation to the
Center.
- Demonstrated capacity to make-decisions and exercise
appropriate authority within a complex administrative
environment.
- A creative, innovative, and entrepreneurial mindset, with a
tolerance for ambiguity and willingness to engage in problem
solving.
- A bachelor’s degree in the humanities, with experience in the
arts. A Master’s degree or equivalent preferred.
Academic - Admin
Performs such other duties, responsibilities, and activities as required by supervisor and as departmental/University needs indicate.
