Provides expertise in support of research projects in engineering, biology, mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics, etc. Prepares and edits research papers, proposal, and reports. Performs advanced testing procedures and analyses of data. May prepare samples for testing. Performs advanced testing procedure and performs analyses of data. The position is offered through the Biological Imaging Core Laboratory at the University of Houston College of Optometry (UHCO). The Biological Imaging Core provides facilities for tissue preparation, light, confocal, and deconvolution fluorescence microscopy, live cell imaging, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and scanning EM serial block-face (SEM-SBF) imaging The Biological Imaging Core increases knowledge about the structure and function of the visual system, and improves visual health by supporting NEI supported investigators in individual labs, and in collaborations across labs and disciplines, in innovative research on vision and vision disorders.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills
The incumbent will be responsible for performing a wide range of histology techniques including but not limited to: Electron microscopy tissue processing and ultrathin sectioning, light microscopy tissue processing and paraffin & frozen tissue sectioning with routine & special staining. Additional responsibilities include training staff/graduate students in histological techniques and overseeing laboratory equipment (tissue processor, cryostat, paraffin workstation, ultramicrotomes, light and electron microscopes, and other related equipment). The incumbent will successfully carry out and maintain QA/QC procedures as well as maintain records pertaining to the laboratory. Other Requirements: The ability to work independently under limited supervision in an organized manner in accordance with established regulations, policies, and procedures. Familiarity with highly complex laboratory equipment and/or computer applications is preferred.
