Williams College is seeking a Web Developer with expertise in front-end development and WordPress to join our team and play a key role in shaping the college's extensive web presence. As a developer with UI/UX and CSS/JS/PHP expertise, you will be at the forefront of transforming design concepts into interactive, responsive, accessible and user-friendly web applications. You'll collaborate closely with our design and backend development teams, contributing your expertise in web interface and WordPress development to ensure that our web platforms are best-in-class and exceed user expectations. Responsibilities
  • Build user interfaces that are well designed, accessible, responsive and standards-compliant
  • Design information architectures that make content easier to find, navigate and maintain
  • Optimize front-end templates for accessibility and performance
  • Partner with offices and departments throughout the college to implement new web initiatives
  • Thoroughly test new functionality; assist with QA after system upgrades; troubleshoot and resolve issues related to website development, including coding errors and browser compatibility


Qualifications
  • A minimum of 4 years of related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience (a Bachelor's is considered the equivalent of 2 years experience)
  • Fluency in JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS
  • Extensive experience building interfaces that meet the WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standard
  • Ability to build web interfaces using UI/UX best practices
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work productively with non-technical peers
  • Experience coding in PHP and using basic command-line tools
  • Experience using git or GitHub/Bitbucket for source code version control
  • Solid understanding of CMS APIs and how to use them for theme and plugin development
  • Ability to build complex layouts using Wordpress page builder plugins


Hybrid on-site/remote work arrangements may be available with approval for employees based in NY, MA, CT, or VT; subject to review and revision as policy evolves.

Application review will begin on June 14, 2022, and will continue until the position is filled. Pay range is from $70,000 to $80,000, commensurate with experience.-- All application materials will be read by the search committee.
