Special Information

This position is posted as Math Achievement Program Coordinator, Intermediate, which is a working title. The NAU system title for this position is Academic Success Coordinator, Intermediate.

This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.

This position is subject to the availability of funding through June 30, 2025 and is subject thereafter. The incumbent is not eligible for Service Professional non-renewal notice, or Classified Staff layoff or recall status.

Job Description

This position assists in supervising the development and management of the Math Achievement Program, and coordinates staffing requirements to ensure the program meets detailed objectives. The Math Achievement Program Academic Success Coordinator Int. assists in supervising the development and management of the Math Achievement Program, and coordinates staffing requirements to ensure the program meets detailed objectives. This position will provide leadership to a program that works with a diverse student body to succeed in higher division math, although no math knowledge is required. In addition, this position will work closely with faculty to ensure programming in the MAP room mirrors, and is supportive of, aligned classroom curriculum.

Program Coordination - 50%
  • Manages daily operations of Math Achievement Program, including but not limited to, supervising, training, and scheduling student staff, maintaining tracking database and providing assistance to students in need.
  • Collaborates with Mathematics faculty to promote MAP services.
  • Collaborates with partnering Mathematics faculty to support embedded tutoring in their course.
  • In collaboration with the Adel Building Manager, maintains the MAP classroom to provide a conducive learning environment for students Coordinates the reservation of classrooms for exam review sessions.
  • Supports the maintenance of the MAP webpage and other online presences for the MAP program.
  • Supports the distribution, collection and analysis of data to ensure effective utilization of resources and assessment of program efficiency.
  • Stays up to date on current, theory driven tutoring strategies and best practices for learning center coordination.
  • Adheres to ASC policies and ensure they are being met and that procedures are followed, both by student staff and students using ASC services.
  • Provides and sets standards for excellent customer service.
  • Assists with ASC department-wide initiatives such as marketing, representation at events, and cross-departmental trainings.
  • Implements best practices for programming related to access and DEI principles.

Supervision - 45%
  • Recruits, selects, hires, and trains student Peer Math Assistants (PMA).
  • Organizes and oversees the PMA observation and evaluation process.
  • Acts as a resource for Peer Math Assistants regarding tutoring strategies; meets with tutors as needed.
  • Coordinates and facilitates new PMA orientations and trainings, including CRLA training, throughout the semester.

Other - 5%
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates or undergraduate Bachelor's degree.
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
  • Experience working with college students in an academic support setting.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Knowledge and/or experience working with tutoring learning strategies.
  • Understanding of appropriate and applied math skills.

Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary

Salary range begins at $44,422 . Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

Benefits

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Additionally, new employees will begin participating in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date.
