Job Description
The Assistant Director of Clinical Partnerships in the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Programming and Graduate Studies supports the institution's mission by forming relationships with external partners and providing leads to program clinical coordinators to facilitate agreements that expand student clinical placements across various health professions. The position reports to the Director of Clinical Partnerships and Internships in the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Programming and Graduate Studies and holds a secondary reporting line to a representative in the College of Health and Human Services.
In collaboration with a variety of offices at NAU, the Assistant Director of Clinical Partnerships contributes to the expansion and development of existing and new healthcare and community-based partnerships that result in an increase in clinical placements and internships across the university, with a primary focus on health professions programs in the College of Health and Human Services. The Assistant Director will collaborate closely with program faculty and staff to develop sufficient placement capacity by building and expanding current and new partnerships to sustain undergraduate and graduate programs. This position will provide project management to ensure tasks progress promptly and are achieved by established due dates. The Assistant Director will also help to create incentives, such as developing educational tools, to support NAU's wide array of partners.
This position requires online collaboration and travel to various partner sites throughout the state of Arizona to build and expand relationships. Travel outside the Phoenix metropolitan area will occur as much as once per week, including day and overnight travel. This position may also require occasional evenings and weekends for signature events and activities when necessary to align with partner schedules.
The success of this position is dependent on collaboration with each academic college and with various NAU offices, including the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies, Office of Educational Partnerships, Workforce Development, Statewide Initiatives, Career Development, External Affairs, the NAU Foundation, the Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity, NAU Health, and more.
Program Management and Development - 50%
- Supports the renewal of affiliation agreements for sites that have multiple NAU programs.
- Manages clinical placement software programs (Exxat) and creates standard operating procedures to improve coordination among academic departments.
- Creates standard operating procedures for department operations related to outreach, events, software utilization, and other areas.
- Maintains an updated list of all clinical placement sites and opportunities for expansion.
- Develops partnership summaries and collaborates with NAU clinical education teams to record all activities with partner organizations.
- Coordinates with the Clinical Partnerships Director and academic units to plan for the necessary student clinical placement capacity needed to support programmatic growth.
- Manage student travel scholarship by reviewing applications, coordinating with students regarding applications, and providing oversight to expense reporting.
- Collaborates with NAU departments to develop a job posting platform to support partner organizations seeking to hire NAU graduates.
- Leads the design of pre-health work-integrated learning experiences (job shadowing, externships, volunteering, etc.) for undergraduate students seeking entry into graduate health professions programs.
- Assists with the development of a healthcare focused internship program for non-health related majors, such as communications, accounting, computer science, and more.
- Contributes to the development of incentives to benefit partner organizations and support student success, such as preceptor training and appreciation, continuing education programming, student internship and placement preparation training, and videos.
- Collaborates with marketing and communication to develop partnership collateral materials.
Outreach - 20%
- Advocates for health professions clinical placements for undergraduate and graduate students with internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicates with CHHS administration, health profession educators, and program coordinators, as well as placement coordinators at clinical sites to develop relationships leading to clinical placements.
- Coordinates opportunities for healthcare and community service partners to engage with faculty, staff, and students at NAU facilities.
- Exhibits at statewide conferences on behalf of the College of Health and Human Services and NAU at large.
- Participates in career or health fairs planned and implemented by various partner organizations.
Event and Stakeholder Planning - 10%
- Serves as the lead organizer for health and human services focused career fairs and employer networking events.
- Organizes regular meetings with NAU partners to discuss clinical placements and internships.
Project Management - 10%
- Maintains accurate report logs to capture university-wide engagement.
- Develop and track key performance indicators for placement strategic action plan.
- Coordinates with partner representatives to develop project plans and ensure continual progress on collaborative goals and objectives.
- Supports project management for grant submissions.
Other Duties as Assigned - 10%
- Supports department specific and university-wide initiatives unrelated to clinical partnerships.
- Additional tasks based on the identified need.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a health profession.
- 3-5 years of directly related work experience.
- 2-4 years of management or supervisory experience.
- Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced education (e.g., Master's or above) in a health profession, public health, counseling, social work, or other relevant degree.
- Experience in programmatic development to support student success and clinical placements.
- Experience in higher education, recruitment, staff supervision and program development and evaluation.
- Experience designing educational tools, trainings, and collateral materials.
- Knowledge of managing clinical placement software, such as myClinicalExhange, Exxat, Sonia, or similar programs.

Background Information
Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. Salary
Salary range begins at $83,312. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
FLSA Status
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
Benefits
This is a Service Professional (SPF) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System or the Optional Retirement Program; 22 days of vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. Service Professionals are hired on a contract basis, renewable each 6 months according to terms of the Conditions of Professional Service. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. If a new employee chooses the ASRS retirement option, participation in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, will begin on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP), which is an alternative to the ASRS plan for faculty and other appointed staff, will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election. Additionally, the long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following election.
