Job Summary
The Housing Facilities Services department with CU Boulder is now accepting applications for a Dining Equipment Mechanic Apprentice! This will provide preventive maintenance and general mechanical support to the food service equipment at CU Boulder and dining halls across campus. This position will learn skilled knowledge and over time will acquire certifications to perform commercial food service equipment repairs.

Housing Facilities Services (HFS) is a comprehensive facility management operation that provides around-the-clock support to over 10,000 residents and 20,000 conference guests annually. Services include maintenance, repair, renovation, project management, capital construction, housekeeping and grounds-keeping operations. HFS has approximately 190 full-time employees and approximately 80 part-time and student staff, who all strive to give residents the best living experience possible.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Commercial Appliance Repairs and Services
- Preform preventive maintenance to varies type for kitchen equipment pre MFG O&M’s. The types of equipment will include but not limit to walk-in cooler/freezers, reach-in coolers/freezers, ice machines cold wells, mixers, slicers, hot wells, flattops, grills, fryers, ranges, ovens, and combi-ovens.
- Perform general repairs of deficiencies found on PM’s.
- Scheduling and giving notification for shutting down equipment that requires ordering parts and assembling specialized tools.
- Advise Supervisor of part purchases and equipment condensation.
- Assist Senior Dining Mechanics with repairs on various dining equipment.
- Will be supervised and trained by Supervisor, Work Leader or Senior Dining Mechanics until employee can demonstrate and show the needed knowledge to preform repair on their own.
Plumbing Repairs
- Repair and replace faucets, rinse station, hose reels, power-soak sinks and pressure washers.
- Clear clogged drain with appropriate chemicals and hand tools or powered equipment.
- Stop and repair leaks in waste, drains, natural gas and domestic. By using the proper tools and replacement parts and fittings.
- Aid licensed trade personal with repairs as followed; Restore drain, waste, and vents systems to proper functioning by using appropriate chemical, hand, or power equipment to remove obstructions.
Electrical Repairs
- Repair and replace outlets, switches, light bulbs to various types of dining equipment.
- Aid licensed trade personal with electrical repairs.
- This position may operate University vehicles, active Driver's License required.
- The successful applicant will be required to undergo a Pre-Placement Physical.
- The annual salary for this position is $50,000.

What We Require
- Two years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
- Appropriate education or successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Good Knowledge and understanding of the use of hand tools, power tools and voltage meter.
- Basic electrical knowledge and ability to read a diagram.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems.
- Have any experience with commercial appliance equipment repair.
- Willing to learn new skills.
