Summary of Job Duties:This position will work closely with staff and faculty personnel as an advocate for students’ academic achievement, personal and social development, and career successes. The counselor will serve under the direct supervision of the Vice Chancellor for the Crossett campus. Specific responsibilities include providing prospective students with program information and career guidance concerning occupational requirements; assisting and facilitating prospective students with admissions by reviewing and processing students’ admissions documents in accordance with policy requirements through in-person appointments, telephone calls, and/or emails. Duties also include serving as the chief test administrator and scheduler of entrance exams, end-of-course exams, UAM on-line exams, placement tests, exams from other universities, and others tests administered on the Crossett campus. The successful candidate will serve as the academic advisor for designated populations of students which includes registering students and consulting with department heads; aid students with understanding their academic requirements and progression; assess students’ level of satisfaction in their chosen major and provide them information concerning educational alternatives and/or degree advancement options; assist students with applying for graduation; provide student support through need assessments and make referrals to appropriate agencies and programs to obtain identified services and resources that will increase student success; participate in recruitment activities; provide individual and group counseling in response to staff and faculty referrals; compile and submit reports; participate in professional development; serve on committees and attend meetings as designated; and perform other duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor.

Qualifications:

A master’s degree in Counseling is required with a minimum of five years counseling experience in education. Counseling licensure is required. Must have exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; be able to work collaboratively with staff, faculty, students, educational partners and other related agencies/organizations; possess proficient computer skills; good organizational skills; be attentive to policy details, and meet a flexible work schedule to provide evening counseling services when deemed necessary.
