Job Details
Southern Arkansas University’s is accepting applications for a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology position with emphasis in any area of Wildlife Ecology. In addition to contributing to the core biology courses, the successful candidate will contribute to the various degree options within our biology program, including the Wildlife Biology and Conservation option. The Department of Biology is located in a modern and well-equipped 64,000 square foot science building and is part of the College of Science and Engineering. Southern Arkansas University offers competitive salaries commensurate with experience, as well as an excellent fringe benefit package.
Duties: The teaching load is expected to average 12 hours per semester. Teaching responsibilities will include upper and lower division biology courses (e.g., Principles of Biology I, Natural Resources Policy and Administration, Wildlife Ecology and Management) and associated laboratories. Other assignments may include teaching upper-level electives in the applicant’s area of expertise as well as other core biology courses (e.g., Ecology, Biostatistics); supervising undergraduate research projects; serving on committees; performing scholarly activity; engaging in recruitment, retention, and advising of students and performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Doctoral degree in Biology or related field required by time of employment and postdoctoral experience is preferred; have expertise in wildlife ecology and/or natural resources policy, with university-level teaching experience in these areas; demonstrate academic mastery in their area of expertise; excellent communication and classroom management skills; ability to engage undergraduate students in meaningful research in the field and laboratory.
