Schmid College of Science and Technology at Chapman University seeks applicants for part-time lab instructors for the following lab course in the Fall 2024 semester:

- Gen Physics -Life Science I Laboratory (Gen Phys 1 Lab) - PHYS 107L

Responsibilities

- Teach one or two assigned four-hour lab sections once per week throughout the semester.

- Each week includes presenting a pre-laboratory lecture about the lab material, instructing and guiding students in correct laboratory technique and safety during the execution of a laboratory experiment, holding office hours, attending instructor meetings, and grading all assignments submitted by the students.

- The possible laboratory section times are weekdays 1:00-4:50 p.m., or 6:00-9:50 p.m., depending on availability.

- The instructor must be available to attend lab instructor orientations before the start of the semester.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or equivalent professional experience

- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing.

- Strong commitment to student learning, quality teaching and academic excellence.

- Ability to motivate and teach students of diverse learning styles and backgrounds.

- Appreciation and respect for student role, contribution, and responsibility in the learning process.

- Commitment to personalized education and the Chapman Experience in the lab room.

Desired qualifications:

- A completed or in progress graduate degree in STEM discipline

- University or community college teaching experience, specifically with introductory physics lab courses, such as General Physics I Laboratory, General Physics for the Life Sciences I Laboratory, General Physics for the Life Sciences II Laboratory, etc.

Successful completion of a background check is required for the final candidate. The pay range for course and course related work for this position is $44.32 per hour.
