Job Description:

The Department of Business and Economics is looking for an adjunct faculty member to teach a course on Food and Beverage Management. The course will primarily focus on food and beverage through the lens of labor costs, supply chain procedures, technology resources, and menu management, including the use of cost calculation, sales concepts, purchasing and distribution considerations, service concepts, dining and beverage etiquette and profit management. This position is for a teaching assignment on our campus in Newport, Rhode Island, to be taught on Monday evenings, beginning in the Fall 2024 semester.

As part of their responsibilities, adjunct faculty are expected to:
  • Prepare and instruct classes assigned by the Department Chair or Assistant Department Chair
  • Prepare, evaluate, provide feedback on, proctor, grade, and return student assignments, examinations, projects, reports, etc. in a timely manner
  • Provide a course syllabus at the start of the semester to students and the department chair
  • Use the Salve learning management system (Canvas) to disseminate syllabus, course material, and grades to students
  • Hold weekly office hours
  • Use Salve email to send and receive official email correspondence
  • Work collaboratively with other course instructors
  • Hold class meetings in person on our campus in Newport, RI

Requirements:
  • Minimum requirement is a Master's degree in business, hospitality, or related discipline, along with related professional and/or teaching experience.
  • Candidates should have an ability to communicate effectively, use technology and learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) effectively in teaching and learning, and to work collaboratively with other members of the department.
