The University of South Dakota Department of Budget & Finance invites applications for the Director of Finance, University Revenue System & Business Services (RSBS) position.
This position will be responsible for strengthening business and financial planning in alignment with the University’s strategic goals. The position will lead financial and business matters and direct financial operations including budgeting, accounting, revenue projections and financial modeling for alternate business scenarios. The Director provides leadership, oversight, and stewardship for all aspects of financial resources while promoting best practices involving finance administration within the Revenue System and University Business Services. The University’s Revenue System and Business Services includes, but is not limited to, Housing, Student Center, Wellness Center, and Auxiliary Services.
Reporting to the AVP Finance and Business Services, the Director of Finance, RSBS works collaboratively with various university leadership in providing strategic advice, recommending, and implementing financial and administrative objectives, policies, programs, and practices that ensure a sound financial structure for the University’s Revenue System and Business Services. The Director keeps all relevant leadership and stakeholders informed about the University’s Revenues System and Business Services current financial position and works creatively to help sustain an environment of excellence through collaboration and innovation.
In carrying out these responsibilities, this position will be expected to continuously evaluate short and long-term strategic financial objectives; produce forecasts and model strategic choices and alternatives; advise on the financial implications of business activities, the costs of strategic priorities, and options for funding strategies that will provide for the realization of the University’s Revenues System and Business Services growth. The Director has responsibility for all reporting and compliance related to fiscal activity and will suggest and lead efficiencies for managing financial processes throughout the areas of financial oversite.
Education and Experience
What level of completed formal education and experience is required for this position?
- 7+ years of progressive complex financial management/oversite experience and Undergraduate degree required. Graduate school degree preferred.

- Undergraduate/Graduate – Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
Other preferred qualifications
- Financial planning experience in higher education
- CPA or MBA
- Experience working with Banner Finance
- Public Institution University System experience
