Job Summary:
Independently supervises and cares for children, singly and in small groups, while parents are attending a parent education class nearby.

Education and Experience:
- Previous work with children in a group setting is preferred.
- Clear criminal background check required.
- Requires a basic knowledge of child guidance principles and practices.
- Sufficient communication skills to interact with children, parent educators, and parents.
Abilities:
- Requires the ability to perform the essential responsibilities and work tasks of the position efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to understand the needs and differences of children, infants through pre-teens.
- Ability to provide guidance and use positive discipline in addressing behavior problems.
- Demonstrated ability to design activities appropriate for children of various ages.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Physical Skills and Abilities:
Position involves light to medium work including walking, standing, stooping, kneeling and carrying and lifting of light to medium weight (10 – 50 pounds). Requires visual acuity and strong arm, hand and finger dexterity, and hand-eye coordination. Requires speaking and hearing ability sufficient to carry on routine conversations.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a classroom/child care setting with exposure to the typical range of activity experienced in settings with children. Employees are subject to exposure to communicable or infectious diseases.
Essential Duties:
- Supervises and cares for children singly and in small groups. Provides a safe environment for children of varied ages.
- Attends to children’s physical needs such as feeding, diapering and hygiene.
- Prepares activities suitable for engaging children of a variety of ages.
- Sets up area prior to class and cleans up afterwards. May include sanitizing toys and materials used by children.
- Works as a team with parent educator and other child care providers to provide a quality family experience for participants. Maintains regular communication with parent educator and parents about child illness, accidents or behavior problems. Communicates with parent educator or supervisor about issues such as facilities or materials.
- Gives advance notice of absences so a substitute can be found.
- Participates in staff training as requested.
- Understands and utilizes mandatory reporter law as needed.
- Other related duties as assigned.
