Minimum Qualifications
- Earned MFA degree in Painting or Drawing, Studio Art, or equivalent (by July 31 for a fall hire)
- Ability to teach all levels of painting and drawing, foundations, studio seminar courses, and areas of specialization
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness
- Evidence of commitment to inclusivity and accessibility in research, service, and/or pedagogy
- Experience with educating and mentoring students of various backgrounds and demographics
Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)
- Innovative pedagogy in undergraduate education
- Knowledge of current and emerging trends and experimental forms in painting and drawing, including digital forms and illustration
- Active contemporary creative/scholarly research in or related to the field of painting and drawing
- A broad vision of the role of Painting and Drawing in an undergraduate art curriculum

Description of the Department or Unit
The Studio Art area of the Department of Art offers a BFA in Studio Art with concentrations in printmaking, drawing and painting, fibers, metals, ceramics and sculpture. There are more than 110 Studio Art majors and more than 110 Art minors. Studio Art faculty also play a central role in providing coursework for Art Department majors in Art Education, Graphic Design, and Art and Visual Culture, and participate in offering general education courses for non-majors across campus.
The Department of Art is accredited by NASAD and has 45 full-time faculty members, 22 part-time faculty members, over 750 undergraduate majors and offers degrees in Art Education, Art & Visual Culture, Graphic Communications Management, Graphic Design, Photography, and Studio Art.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach three courses per semester (9 credit hours)
- Sustain creative/scholarly research in the field of studio art
- Participate in departmental and university service, including collaborating with Studio Art colleagues on curriculum, program development, and student advising
- Assist with the coordination and supervision of the Painting and Drawing area
