Duties and Responsibilities

Loyola University Chicago ( LUC ), College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Philosophy, invites applications for a Temporary, One-Year instructor appointment (non-renewable) for the academic year 2024-2025. The department has a particular need for someone who can teach an introductory Environmental Ethics course. The department serves more than 174 majors and students from associated university programs at the Lake Shore Campus. This search is part of a university-wide, multiyear hiring initiative designed to hire outstanding researchers and teachers who reflect our diverse student body and are committed to interdisciplinarity (i.e., working with colleagues across different subfields and disciplines). Candidates who can further the University’s efforts to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion are of special interest.

This is a non-tenure-track, full-time position that involves teaching the following courses: introductory Philosophy Core courses—particularly Environmental Ethics. Teaching responsibilities shall include a 4-4 teaching load.

Qualifications

The candidate will have a Ph.D. in Philosophy or a related field. Candidates for the position must clearly demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and clear potential for student mentorship. The candidate should be willing to support the mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic Education.
