Job Description:

BASIC FUNCTION:

Successful candidates should demonstrate a commitment to equity-minded teaching that speaks to and motivates undergraduates from diverse backgrounds, emphasizes experiential learning, and integrates the University's Mercy mission. The Department of Nursing invites applications for a full-time lecturer in Nursing with a start date in the 2024/2025 academic year. The teaching load for this position is 12/9 credits per academic year. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the faculty members teaching the lecture sections of nursing theory courses and the clinical coordinator to ensure a consistent, robust clinical experience for all students in the course.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Duties include three days of clinical instruction in the complex, acute/chronic care, and/or simulation lab setting in MA and/or RI and two days on campus.
  • Clinical instruction in the complex, and/or acute/chronic care setting during the fall semester and if qualified may include maternal health, L & D during the spring semester.
  • She/he is responsible for assuring regulatory compliance with accreditation, state, and Federal guidelines.
  • Working collaboratively with full-time faculty and responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, grading, and evaluation of students and their performance in the clinical area.
  • Maintain established curricula that appropriately reflect current knowledge in the discipline, including the impact of cultural diversity issues on course content and instructional practices.
  • Follow the curriculum aimed at assisting students pass the NCLEX licensing exam. Occasional travel between clinical placement sites and campus classes may be needed.
  • Build and maintain between local facilities and community programs regarding public health, geriatric, acute, chronic, and vulnerable populations.
  • Supervise and evaluate students in didactic and clinical settings.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • NUR 150-fundamentals of Nursing course every other fall semester with advising responsibilities.
  • Other duties include department committee participation, and monthly department and university meetings.
LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:
  • Unencumbered RN license in Rhode Island and Massachusetts
  • NRP certification if teaching labor and delivery
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

The employee is not exposed to known adverse environmental conditions other than those of working in healthcare settings.


Requirements:

Required:
  • MS in Nursing required.
  • We seek a colleague who is committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching with a focus on hands-on learning. Salve Regina University has state-of-the-art Nursing simulation laboratory.
  • Minimum of two years' full-time employment in nursing or its equivalent within the past five years, and evidence of clinical competence in area of didactic and clinical instruction. NRP certification required if teaching in the specialty of labor and delivery.
  • Qualified applicants must be able to perform the essential functions of a nurse on a clinical unit of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Immunizations required by clinical institutions
Preferred:
  • A Ph.D. or other terminal degree and teaching experience are preferred but not mandatory.
  • Teaching and experience with student evaluation responsibilities with multi-cultural either classroom or clinical setting.
  • Simulation experience a plus.
