This position leads the Western North Carolina (WNC) Health Policy
Initiative (HPI), which is funded by a 3-year grant from the
Dogwood Health Trust and is entering year two. A project of the NC
Center for Health and Wellness at UNC Asheville, the WNC HPI was
created to serve as a convener of and conduit for information,
resources, and coalition-building to inform strategies for
improving the health and wellbeing of all people of WNC through
scholarship, collaboration, policy development and advocacy.
The role of the Health Policy Senior Project Manager for the Health Policy Initiative (Senior PM HPI) is both strategic and operational. This person will collaboratively lead the strategic visioning and implementation of activities for the initiative. It requires working with internal and external partners and staff, including one project coordinator and a research associate, to oversee all functions, policies and processes related to the operation of the WNC Health Policy Initiative and its activities, including:
The position is hybrid, but the Senior PM will be based in the Asheville area as regular in person attendance at events is required.
This position may require some travel to attend or present at partner events, conferences, policy briefings and other activities.
The employee in this position is expected to work collaboratively as a member of the NC Center for Health and Wellness team and serve on the leadership team. The purpose of the leadership team is to engage in organizational-level strategizing and decision-making and actively advance efforts related to organizational structure, partnerships, development, staffing, funding, and management. Leadership team members attend, periodically co-facilitate and/or note take bimonthly leadership team meetings. All leadership team members are responsible for supporting staff dynamics, wellbeing, and financial viability of the organization.

- Working effectively with a broad range of stakeholders to build strong alliances internally and externally, implement the HPI's shared goals and objectives, and grow the organization in alignment with its mission and strategic vision.
- Working with the team on coordinating, facilitating, and supporting internal and external partners, guest speakers, and other attendees to plan and hold discussion forums, as well as other events and activities.
- Guiding the development of audio, visual, print, web and other media content to support regionalized health policy education, development, advocacy, and dissemination.
- Providing operational support for the HPI, including contracting with experts and researchers, overseeing budget/financials management, ensuring the documentation of meetings, attendance and other performance measures, and grant report writing and generation.
- Working with other HPI leadership, staff and partners to identify and secure additional funding and partnerships to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of, and equitable regional representation within, the HPI and its activities.
