Scope of Job:
To perform difficult and physically demanding manual work and coordinate the work performed by others while following established procedures.
Description of Duties:
- Directs and reviews work orders and assigns activities;
performs inspections of work in progress and completed
assignments.
- Works alongside the assigned staff performing all needed
duties.
- Cleans areas when remodeling buildings and ensures that no
material is left behind.
- Inspects facilities for needed services; discusses service
requests with customers.
- Assists with different trades on special events.
- Moves, transports, arranges, assembles and disassembles
furniture such as chairs, tables, podiums, platforms, scaffolding,
tents, portable cans, signage, decorations, etc.
- Loads and unloads supplies and equipment.
- Assists with surplus/warehouse area as needed.
- Moves furniture, office equipment and a variety of heavy
supplies and equipment.
- Trains employees in the proper safety regulation, methods and
procedures used to perform their duties.
- Ensures all safety procedures are followed.
- Carries a radio and keeps communication with department and
base.
- May be required to assist with performing groundskeeping duties
including but not limited to: operating equipment for mowing,
edging, weed removal, tree trimming, and maintaining
planters.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received:
Immediate and frequent detailed supervision.

Required Education:
Completion of the 6th grade. Able to read, write and speak English.
Preferred Education:
High School Diploma or GED.
Licenses/Certifications:
As condition of employment this position requires the applicant to be authorized to operate a University-Owned Vehicle for Official University Business. Per University of Texas System Policy 157, applicants will be subject to a motor vehicle record check for their most recent thirty-six (36) month history. Out of State Drivers are required to submit a 36-month history MVR from their prior State of residence(s).

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Exposure to weather and physical stress. May work in cramped surroundings or lift heavy and cumbersome objects. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
Other:
Prompt and correct completion of assignments. Ability to communicate with students, departments and requesters from outside the university. Ability to read and follow layouts concerning events. Ability to work at heights. This position will be subject to a pre-employment physical.
