Hiring Range: $61,297-$76,620, plus full state benefits
Full Time or Part Time: Full Time

Job Description:


Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. Germanna Community College is centrally located in Fredericksburg, VA between Washington D.C. and Richmond and between the Blue Ridge mountains and the Chesapeake Bay. Full of history, the area offers a community rich with diversity, the arts, technology, vineyards, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, and many other activities.
Germanna is currently looking for a Workforce Laboratory Manager responsible for providing laboratory instructional support for Asphalt, Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Welding, Core Craft Skills, Carpentry, Construction Craft Laborer, Fork Lift, Fiber Optic Installer, Fiber Optic Technician, Phlebotomy and other healthcare and skilled trade courses at all locations. Responsible for communication and maintenance of the financial, physical facilities and coordination of the laboratory environment including simulators. The incumbent will provide instructional support to the Workforce Department to prepare an efficient, high quality laboratory experience while maintaining a safe and healthy environment for our students.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversees preparation of laboratories and maintenance of laboratory prep areas; arranges for cleaning and repair of equipment as needed; creates schedule of lab set-ups for professors; completes lab prep for designated classes; communicates with adjunct and full-time instructors for lab preparations, special needs, and equipment concerns
  • Ensures performance of safety inspections and reports; maintains chemical inventory and stock; maintains MSDS and labeling of all hazardous materials and arranges for disposal of hazardous waste and clean up; processes safety audits; serves as chemical hygiene officer; provides training required on the OSHA Standard; updates and reviews chemical hygiene plan; responds to safety related inquires and concerns; enforces CHP rules; lab design review; establishes and monitors quality control procedures; ensures compliance with standards and guidelines set forth by accredited programs, ensures instructors follow safety procedures in lab, collects lab contracts
  • Manages and maintains assumption of risk forms for students and faculty
  • Designs and supervises weekly tasks for lab techs and work study students
  • Reviews organizational goals to relate with preferred outcomes; applies knowledge of supervisory principles and practices; applies knowledge of assigned technical or research area; participates or designs modification and performance of lab or research projects; modifies and develops lab and field procedures, quality control processes and determines work methods; supervises lab operation to include business functions and accountability for services provided to administrators, faculty and other users
  • Maintains equipment, models, and other teaching instruments and schedules repairs as needed.
  • Oversees purchasing and budget under supervision of the Dean of Professional Studies and Workforce Development

KSA's/Required Qualifications:
  • Ability to maintain equipment and supplies in a laboratory for skilled trades or healthcare.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with or willingness to learn artificial intelligence tools.
