Job Description
Wentworth Institute of Technology is seeking an Athletic Trainer to begin work on August 1, 2024.
The Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting in the overall health and welfare of all varsity student-athletes, with particular emphasis upon prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries. This position will assist in providing medical coverage for varsity athletics competitions and practices and will help in the administrative organization of the sports medicine program. This job requires flexible hours including nontraditional hours, weekends, and travel to and from away matches as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical and Professional Responsibilities
- Evaluates and treats all athletic injuries and illnesses sustained while participating in Wentworth intercollegiate athletics.
- Provides and assist in rehabilitation services for student-athletes including post-surgical injuries.
- Assists in providing coverage and athletic training services for all practices and athletic contests hosted by Wentworth.
- Assists in providing coverage and athletic training services assigned by Head Athletic Trainer.
- Provides appropriate emergency referrals and implements the emergency action plan. Conduct pre-game Medical Timeout to ensure all parties involved are aware of emergency action plan implementation.
- Provides appropriate student-athlete referrals to team physicians, Wentworth Student Health Services, Wentworth Center for Wellness and other healthcare professionals.
- Works and communicates effectively with team physicians, Wentworth Student Health Services, Wentworth Wellness Center, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to enhance the recovery of the injured student-athlete.
- Schedule and facilitate on-campus ortho clinics with team physicians.
- Works and communicates effectively with the Wentworth strength and conditioning staff.
- Manages rehabilitation appointments for Wentworth student-athletes
- Provide clinical services for on-campus junior and senior student athletes during summer session, including but not limited to rehabilitation for post-surgical patients.
- Maintains accurate and updated computerized medical records and documentation on all intercollegiate student-athletes
- Assists in maintaining updated required pre-participation medical paperwork requirements on all intercollegiate student-athletes, including identify athletes with mental health concerns, monitor status of athlete; baseline concussion testing per compliance with NCAA policy.
- Submit student-athlete claim forms with Wentworth’s athletic excess insurance policy and assists carrier with gathering additional information.
- Assists in the maintenance of the sports medicine facility, supplies, and equipment.
- Assists with other administrative duties assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer, such as but not limited to inventory of medical/office supplies.
- Assist in the annual review and evaluation of policies and procedures within Sports Medicine Department.
- Assist in managing the supervision and organization of Wentworth work study students assigned to Sports Medicine.
- Assumes the role of clinical preceptor in the supervision of Athletic Training students as needed by local graduate programs.
- Manages student-athlete healthcare related education:
Educates student-athletes on current health and safety topics.
Works in conjunction with Wentworth’s Wellness Education Coordinator to promote and design pertinent student-athlete wellness education programming. - Assists with the annual Athletics Department Staff CPR/AED/First Aid re-certification and emergency action plan training.
- Consults with coaches regarding proper training techniques, nutrition, risk management issues, and other injury prevention methods.
- Monthly in-service presentations to Sports Medicine Staff.
- Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, or related field
- Current MA state license
- BOC Certification in good standing
- 1-3 years of experience as an Athletic Trainer.
- Master’s Degree in Athletic Training, or related field
- Collegiate setting experience
- Contact and collision sport experience
