SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports directly to the Associate Director of Alumni & Student Engagement.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Phonathon & work-study students.
POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Associate Director of Alumni & Student Engagement, the Assistant Director works within a collaborative environment and coordinates initiatives, programs, philanthropic opportunities, and events intended to engage students with Moravian University and Theological Seminary. This position serves on a staff of committed fundraising and engagement professionals and works closely with leadership volunteers, students, and alumni.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Student Philanthropy
- Cultivate a culture of philanthropy at the university by partnering with students, organizations, and leaders to align student interests with institutional philanthropic priorities and opportunities from acceptance to graduation.
- Oversee all Phonathon efforts, including in-house
student-caller programs, special interest calling, enrollment
calling, and Phonathon vendor services.
- Design and execute a data-driven outreach strategy aligning with institutional philanthropy and engagement needs.
- Required to attend a minimum of 2 night shifts per week (schedule permitting). Typical night shifts run 6-8 p.m.
- Support and expand the Senior Class Gift Committee to help determine the senior class gift project and solicit classmates through events and direct solicitations. This includes scheduling and attending all meetings and proactively hitting all goals the committee and department set.
- Work with the Development Team to develop student-focused engagement opportunities for Days of Giving, Athletics Giving Challenge, and Philanthropy Week.
- Establish metrics to assess the effectiveness of all philanthropy initiatives.
- Create and continue to expand on the 4-Year Student Engagement Plan, creating significant touch points for all four class years.
- Via a robust and collaborative partnership with Student Life, develop, execute, and support student-centric engagement events on campus for all class years, including Senior Class events, Move-In Day, Heritage Day, Founders' Day, and Commencement. Be visible and an active supporter of campus community celebrations and recognition activities focused on students, such as key athletics events (senior recognition), Nursing Pinning Ceremony, honors programs, Greek Life, student government, etc.
- In conjunction with the Assistant Director of Engagement Events, plan all senior events and activities.
- Oversee and support the Student Alumni Representatives (STARs)
through training, stewardship programs, and educational events.
This includes working closely with Gift Officers and other
Development team members to utilize the STARs with specific alumni
and alumni groups.
- Mentor and support student leaders involved in engagement and philanthropy initiatives, helping them develop skills in leadership, communication, and organization.
- Establish metrics to assess the effectiveness of all engagement initiatives.
- Responsible for overseeing and maintaining the following budgets: Student Philanthropy, Senior Week Program, and STARs.
- Perform additional job-related duties as assigned by the Associate Director.
SKILLS: Requires superb written and verbal communication skills, a high level of creativity and innovative thinking, and excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with staff at all levels, and the ability to represent Moravian University with tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality. Exceptional attention to detail, grammar, spelling, and consideration for the target audience using various formats (e.g. emails, letters, social media, public speaking, etc.).
Ability to productively manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment. Ability to prioritize, manage time efficiently, meet deadlines, and work independently and collaboratively, meticulous attention to detail, good listener with the ability to build rapport easily with internal and external constituents, a team-oriented person with a passion for education, excellent judgment, maturity, creativity, flexibility, and a strong commitment to the mission and goals of Moravian University.
