Position Description

The ESL Coach/Instructor, reporting to the Project Director/ESL Lead Faculty, will be responsible for teaching professional development classes, providing instructional coaching, and supporting the development and implementation of Family Literacy workshops. The position requires a Bachelor's degree (Master’s preferred), a valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate with ESL certification, and a minimum of three years of teaching experience. The role involves regular classroom visits, feedback provision, and monitoring of English Language Learners' progress through various instructional approaches and interventions. This position is contingent upon grant fund for the continuation and renewal.

Position Responsibilities

Teaching Responsibilities:
  • Teach four sections of the Professional Development class, EDG 546 (Teaching English Learners in Inclusive Classrooms), annually. In the initial year, teach three sections.
  • Teach the 1-credit Summer Academy class each year.
Instructional Coaching:
  • Provide instructional coaching and support to all teachers participating in the professional development program.
  • Visit classrooms regularly throughout the school year to provide feedback and support for teachers in implementing English Learner (EL) improvement strategies.
  • Assist teachers in analyzing assessment data and using it to inform instruction for individual students.
Program Development:
  • Assist in the development and delivery of Family Literacy workshops designed and implemented by participants in related coursework.
  • Oversee the creation and execution of interventions, monitoring their effectiveness and making necessary adjustments.
Data and Assessment:
  • Administer assessments and collaborate with teachers to interpret assessment data.
  • Model effective use of data to inform instructional strategies and interventions.
  • Monitor the progress of English Language Learners (ELL) in response to different instructional approaches and interventions.
Other Duties:
  • Perform any additional tasks or duties as directed by the Project Directors.

Qualifications

Educational Background:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (Master's degree preferred).
  • Valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate with ESL certification.
Instructional Skills:
  • Strong understanding of effective instructional strategies for English Language Learners.
  • Ability to design and implement professional development workshops and courses.
  • Experience in providing instructional coaching and support to teachers.
Analytical Skills:
  • Proficiency in administering and analyzing assessments.
  • Ability to use data to inform instructional practices and interventions.
Interpersonal Skills:
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and support to teachers.
Program Development:
  • Experience in developing and implementing literacy programs and interventions.
  • Ability to oversee and guide the creation of Family Literacy workshops.
Organizational Skills:
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and tasks effectively.
Adaptability:
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing program needs and instructional methods.
  • Willingness to perform additional duties as required by the Project Directors.
