Job Description Summary / TWC Summary

The Assistant Dean/Assistant Professor of Student Services is responsible for the overall leadership and administration of the Office of Student Services and its programs for the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The Assistant Dean/Assistant Professor is responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering a full range of student services designed to enhance the educational, professional and social experience of students. This position reports to the Dean.

Essential Duties Summary
  • Supervises assigned staff to maintain and institute programmatic improvements in the areas of recruitment, admissions, transfer, registration, retention and student professional development.
  • Assures that policies and procedures pertaining to students are made available and followed. Resolves student problems, both academic and non-academic. Manages student petitions and grievances.
  • Serves on the College’s Admissions, Scholarship and Special Events committees. Serves on other college committees as requested.
  • Establishes an effective quality assurance structure and process for student service programs.
  • Serves as liaison to the TSU Registrar, Office of Disability Services, Office of International Services and other campus offices to manage registration, accommodations, international student issues and all other student concerns.
  • Plans, coordinates and implements special academic programs, special events and career services; including student organizations, involvement, leadership and volunteer activities for professional and pre-professional students.
  • Oversees the College’s scholarship programs, special academic programs and financial aid resources including articulation agreement pathways with local community colleges, high school, and other institutions.
  • Assists in the promotion and fundraising of the college.
  • Assists the Dean with formulating policies and implementing action plans for student services.
  • Compiles information and prepares administrative reports.
  • Participates in professional development and assures the participation of staff in professional development activities.
  • Teaches one course in the PharmD or Health Science programs per academic year.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Commensurate with experience.

Education

Earned doctorate (PharmD, or PhD in a in related Health Science or Higher Education).

Required Licensing/Certification

Eligible to hold a tenure-track faculty position in COPHS at TSU .

A PharmD candidate must be licensed to practice in the state of Texas or obtain licensure within 180 days of hire.
