Assistant Professor of Systematic Theology (specialization: Science and Theology), Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology, with an 18 credit per year load (typically 3-3), and the expectation to maintain an active research agenda at the intersection of science and theology. Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology is an embedded college within Seton Hall University and has over 225 students.

Appointments to Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology are of two kinds: probationary and term contract. The probationary appointment shall be from one to three years, which shall be specified in the contract. The University Provost will offer a contract to the candidate for this period, the terms of which shall not conflict with the terms and provisions of the Archbishop of Newark's letter of appointment. During the probationary contract, the faculty member will be evaluated according to procedures in the Faculty Guide, and, if approved, may apply for a seven-year term contract.

Duties and Responsibilities:

A successful candidate will be expected to maintain a high-quality research program of publications in the area of science and theology, and be able to supervise Master of Arts theses within the general field of systematic theology. He or she will be expected to collaborate extensively with students and faculty in other departments in the School of Theology, as well as other campus units such as Catholic Studies, the Core Curriculum, Mathematics and Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The successful applicant will be able to teach the department's offerings in Systematic Theology for Catholic priests, deacons, seminarians, deacon candidates, religious, and the laity. These courses include offsite, evening classes and could be in-person, virtual, or hybrid. Faculty may also teach undergraduate courses to pre-theologians, college seminarians, and Seton Hall undergraduates from a variety of majors through the Core Curriculum.

Required Qualifications:

The candidate must a practicing Roman Catholic and have obtained a doctorate in systematic, dogmatic, or fundamental theology, with an evident specialization in science and theology, by August 2024. The candidate must also be eligible for the ecclesiastical mandatum from the Archbishop of Newark.

Desired Qualifications:

Priority will be given to applicants with prior teaching experience and a record of scholarly publication in the area of science and theology. An ideal candidate would have a strong Thomistic background. The vast majority of classes are taught in English, but the ability to also teach diaconal candidates in Spanish is a plus. Preference will be given to qualified Catholic priests who have the permission of their Ordinary to apply.
