To that end, Seton Hall Law School seeks to hire a Director of Academic Success & Bar Support who shall have primary responsibility for developing and providing academic success and bar preparation programming for both full- and part-time students. The Director will be tasked with designing programming that effectively identifies challenges and obstacles that hinder student success and, when implemented, helps students overcome those hurdles. The Director will ideally be an experienced, innovative, creative, and collaborative self-starter with a strong understanding of the skills students need to succeed in law school. The Director will have significant autonomy to build on existing programs to enhance student outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Academic Success: Develop, coordinate, and implement an overarching and comprehensive academic success program for all students at all stages of their law school experience. This will involve providing regular one-on-one academic support counseling for students, maintaining a substantial in-person presence at least four days a week with regular in-person office hours, conducting workshops on topics that contribute to academic success, creating and maintaining an online portal with materials that provide additional academic support for students, coordinating and implementing academic success programming during IL Orientation and the LEO Summer Institute, keeping abreast of best practices, emerging trends, and research relevant to legal education, academic success, and student learning styles and using that information to identify obstacles that impede academic success and to create effective programming, attending and presenting at conferences focused on academic success and support, tracking student outcomes and providing yearly summaries of program efficacy which include strategic recommendations for future programming that addresses deficiencies or areas for growth, compiling academic success information for institutional reporting, assisting with student recruitment and retention, enhancing student satisfaction, and building community. May require occasional participation in evening or weekend events.
2. Bar Support: Coordinate and implement all support services related to bar exam success/bar passage for all students. This will involve conducting regular bar exam workshops on core skills required for success on the bar exam, administering practice tests/exams and providing students with individualized feedback and scoring, counseling students and alumni as they apply, prepare, and study for the bar exam, understanding test components in all UBE jurisdictions and staying abreast of developments to the evolution of national examinations and adoption of Next Gen exam, understanding LLM specific testing requirements for bar testing, advising students on course selection to maximize bar exam success, tracking and compiling bar passage information for various institutional reporting needs, tracking student outcomes and provide year-end summaries of program efficacy that include strategic recommendations for future programming that addresses deficiencies or areas for growth, representing the law school with external entities, developing relationships with commercial bar prep providers to optimize service to SH students, providing periodic overviews to the faculty and administration regarding the program's development and ongoing needs, monitoring bar preparation courses to track enrollment and success rates, administering and implementing the Bar Support Grant program, and counseling students as they undertake commercial bar prep.
3. Additional related duties as assigned, including serving on law school committees as needed and when related to issues of student success, and occasionally attending law school events during and outside of ordinary business hours. Some travel may be required.
Required Qualifications:
Juris Doctor degree; Minimum of three years of experience in academic success/bar exam support programming at an ABA accredited law school; Prior teaching experience in a law school environment; Prior experience counseling/supervising law students; Strong academic performance in law school.
