Position Summary:
The mission of New Jersey Institute of Technology's Office of Development & Alumni Relations is to cultivate the understanding, engagement, and support of the university's key constituencies - alumni, friends, and corporate and foundation partners - in order to secure the philanthropic resources required to fulfill NJIT's educational mission.
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Development & Alumni Relations and exercising a high degree of strategic thinking, creativity, and independence, the Director, Corporate & Foundation Relations is responsible for identifying and cultivating corporate and foundation gift and grant opportunities, and for soliciting and stewarding corporate and foundation gifts and grants that advance the university's various institutional priorities. To this end, the Director, Corporate & Foundation Relations works closely with NJIT's senior administrators, deans, faculty, volunteers, staff, and other staff in the Development & Alumni Relations office in preparing and submitting to corporations and foundations solicitation letters, grant proposals, program and project budgets, and grant and stewardship reports.
Essential Functions:
The Director, Corporate & Foundation Relations will:
- Write, or assist in the writing of/edit, project prospectuses and proposals (including budgets) that effectively address the project or institutional objectives and articulate benefits to NJIT and to potential corporate and foundation partners.
- Research and cultivate prospective donors and create and implement solicitation strategies for major foundations and corporations, including scheduling visits for NJIT personnel with corporate and foundation program officers.
- Meet with corporate and foundation managers and executives, and maintain working, mutually beneficial relationships with them.
- Assist university personnel in the identification of corporate and foundation grant opportunities.
- Research NJIT programs, projects, etc. for possible corporate and/or foundation support.
- Manage, coordinate, and track all corporate and foundation, prospects and donors from planning to reporting stage.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for the preparation and submission of grants by university faculty and staff.
Maintain effective communication with NJIT's President, Provost, deans, department heads, and faculty, as well as the President of the New Jersey Innovation Institute, relative to corporate and foundation relations.
- Collaborate with faculty, technical professional staff, development officers, and administrators in the appropriate stewardship of corporate- and foundation-funded programs and projects.
- Write, or assist in the writing of/edit, grant reports to corporations and foundations.
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of working relationships with many corporate and foundation managers and executives for program stewardship.
- Manage portfolio consisting of a minimum of 125 corporate and foundation prospects.
- Manage corporate donor strategies in collaboration with Development & Alumni Relations staff, senior leadership, and other university staff to ensure the highest return for all involved parties.
- Manage and mentor the Assistant Director, Corporate & Foundation Relations.
- Incumbent must be willing to work extended hours as needed. Requirements could include evening and weekend meetings, special event attendance, and travel. Ability to travel both in and out-of-state (25% out of state, 75% in state).
- Annual goals relating to personal contacts, number of proposals submitted, grants secured, and new prospects identified to be established in collaboration with the Vice President and Associate Vice President of Development & Alumni Relations.

Other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President for Development & Alumni Relations.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive successful fundraising experience in the area of corporate and foundation relations or other relevant experience managing business relationships.
- Master's degree.
- Exceptional writing, speaking, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Must demonstrate an ability to: establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and external constituents; facilitate multiple projects, make decisions, and meet deadlines; and identify problems and develop creative, timely, and efficient solutions.
- Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Google, Raiser's Edge, FC Search, and ability to learn other programs, as need arises.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
