Description

The Department of English at St. Olaf College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Writing and Digital Studies at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2025. The ideal candidate should have expertise in texts and technologies, digital rhetoric, and journalistic writing.

The successful applicant will teach five undergraduate courses per year at all levels with a regular commitment of three courses in the English Department and two sections of Writing and Rhetoric (first-year writing). In addition to teaching in English and Writing, we expect that the new hire will also have opportunities to teach in other programs on campus such as Media Studies, First-Year Seminar, and one of our interdisciplinary learning communities for first-year students.

Qualifications
We invite applicants who will hold a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition or Writing Studies by start of fall semester and are especially interested in candidates who can contribute courses in theories of social media and culture as well as writing for digital platforms.

The English Department at St. Olaf College is an incredibly dynamic and integral part of the St. Olaf community that boasts three major tracks: English, Creative Writing, and English with teaching licensure. Beyond frequently teaching Writing and Rhetoric (first-year writing), several department members serve other programs such as Film Studies, Race and Ethnic Studies, and St. Olaf's unique learning communities including Enduring Questions and Environmental Conversations.

5. Teaching Statement (of no more than 1000 words) that offers insight into your pedagogical methods, values, and ambitions. Note how you might envision your scholarship informing your pedagogical practice.
6. Professional Statement: A packet of individual course evaluations, sample syllabi, and other documents that provide insight into your teaching, ideally in more than one course that is relevant to the position.
7. Writing or scholarship sample that represents your scholarship in the area(s) of writing/rhetoric and digital studies. Please provide a brief statement of context.
