Deputy Assistant Director

The Deputy Assistant Director for the Directorate for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (SBE) serves as a key leader and primary assistant to the Assistant Director in providing direction and overseeing the activities of the SBE Directorate. The Deputy Assistant Director will contribute to the Directorate strategic vision while supporting the execution of multidisciplinary program and education activities that advance cutting-edge research across the Division of Social and Economic Sciences (SES), the Division of Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences (BCS), the SBE Office of Multidisciplinary Activities, in addition to, the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) - the nation's principal producer of statistics on the education, employment, funding, and activities of scientists and engineers in all sectors of the U.S. economy and internationally. These organizations provide the basic structure for SBE activities. This role involves collaboration with stakeholders across the academic, governmental, and private sectors.

The Deputy Assistant Director participates with the Assistant Director in the coordination and overall management of Directorate activities with the directorate's senior managers and a staff of approximately 144. The Deputy Assistant Director also provides leadership and direction to the preparation of SBE budget planning activities and presenting and defending the Directorate budget to agency officials, the Office of Management and Budget and the Congress.
Appointment to this Senior Executive Service position will be on a career basis, with a salary range of $193,819 to $218,975.
