Clinical Director for the Doctoral Nurse Anesthesia Program

Newman University (NU), in partnership with the national search firm Scott Healy & Associates (SH & A), invites candidates who share NU’s passion for educating a diverse range of students to apply for the position of Clinical Director for the Doctoral Nurse Anesthesia Program (DNAP). Reporting to the Director of DNAP, the Clinical Director coordinates all student activities in the clinical area, including pre and post clinical conferences, Mortality/Morbidity conferences and journal club. The Clinical Director also has teaching responsibilities in the classroom. NU seeks individuals with exceptional skill and experience in nursing education, practice, and administration to apply for this full-time, 12-month position with one day/week release for clinical practice.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Lead coordination of student clinical instruction.
• Act as a liaison between the clinical agencies and the University.
• Serve as an intermediary between students and other hospital personnel, including clinical preceptors.
• Review students’ monthly case records and time logs.
• Participate, instruct, and supervise students in administering anesthesia.
• Participate in regularly scheduled clinical site visits, per policy.
• Integrate ethical and professional principles in nursing practice.
• Maintain proficiency in clinical competencies.
• Meet monthly with the Program Administrator regarding students’ clinical progress.
• Hold clinical conferences quarterly.
• Coordinate activities related to compliance of the program of nurse anesthesia with university policy and with the Council on Accreditation of Educational Standards and Kansas State Board of Nursing Regulations.
• Participate in University and program committees.
• Complete all University-required training including Title IX and FERPA.
• Contribute to the overall success of the DNAP program by performing all other duties as assigned and appropriate to the position.

Required Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Graduate of an accredited program of nurse anesthesia.
• Hold a master’s degree and CRNA license.
• Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience, with administrative and didactic experience preferred.
• Possess Kansas nursing credentials (registered nurse licensure, advanced registered nurse practitioner certification, registered nurse anesthetist authorization), or eligible for Kansas licensure.
• Have current and appropriate preparation in the area of curriculum instruction and testing and evaluation.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Hold a DNAP, DNP, or PhD degree.

An Ideal Candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:

1. Knowledge of principles and theory of anesthesia equipment, techniques, and procedures.
2. Professional development through:
   1. maintaining recertification through the NBCRNA (National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists).
   2. maintaining current membership in the AANA.
   3. attendance at departmental and hospital in-service education programs.
   4. reviewing current anesthesia literature.
   5. attendance at local, state, and national meetings.
   6. participation in the administration of anesthesia.

Salary:

Range is 165-185K depending on education level and experience. Clinical practice earnings go to the faculty member, not the institution. There is the potential for candidates without a doctorate to enroll in the DNAP program free of charge if chosen as Clinical Director.
