PS Research Assistant/Analyst

Job Summary

The focus of our research is on neurologic autonomic disorders, with particular interest in those that are considered to be “dysautonomias” - a poorly understood category of autonomic neurological dysfunction where disease expression is presumed to be circuit-based, rather than neurodegenerative. We are currently looking to hire one full-time research assistant/analyst to assist with NIH- and foundation-funded studies aimed at discovering biomarkers of human disease; an ideal candidate will have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, experience with data management/statistical software, and/or clinically oriented exposures. Research assistants will work under the mentorship of Dr. Cortez in the Department of Neurology, alongside a dynamic team of other study team members. This position is particularly well suited for early-career individuals on a career path toward Research Analyst or Research Coordinator positions, and/or individuals seeking to gain research with clinical and/or physiology related experience prior to graduate or medical school.

Conducts data collection (including human physiology) and study visit facilitation, provides technical support for study protocols along with equipment setup/maintenance, and assists with human participant related study visits and related activities. Gathers and organizes data, literature searches, medical record reviews and related non-lab methods for studies and related protocols, grants, publications and other research-related uses. Other duties as required.

Responsibilities
Collects, compiles, and enters data from a variety of sources, including human symptom reports, surveys, and physiological data. As data collection in this role requires a high level of precision and consistency, must also demonstrate organizational skills and have the physical ability to follow multi-step procedures requiring a combination of frequent standing, sitting, repetitive hand motion (such as typing), bending, reaching overhead, walking, and near continuous hearing, listening, and talking.

May edit research papers, project reports, proposals and curriculum materials prior to submission or presentation.

Prepares data reports in a format for final disposition of data; maintains an internal library on project information resources and final data collected.

May work with research team in the design and preparation of research projects and in recording and analyzing data.

May also support research team in project related participant recruitment, retention, and reimbursement related activities; supervision of undergraduate volunteers. There may be opportunities to learn about research regulatory and ethical factors, submit presentations to national conferences, and prepare manuscripts for publication.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a Social or Behavioral Science, Liberal Arts, or a field related to the area of research, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); one year of experience in research and analytical techniques; demonstrated statistical and quantitative analysis experience; and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills required.
