Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Executive Director, Architecture and Infrastructure is accountable for the high availability of the Lone Star College System Wide Area Network and Infrastructure. This individual is responsible for providing a state-of-the-art network architecture, virtualization, storage, backup, and recovery as well as campus support in these areas, along with leading a team of professionals delivering innovation, excellent service availability, and outstanding customer service.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Act as the primary architect and knowledge expert in network and data center design, modernization, and operations
  2. Manage technical teams that support network infrastructure, phone solutions, virtual and physical servers (on-prem and cloud), and various cloud technical solutions
  3. Create and maintain strategic plan for network, Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP), and data center
  4. Create and maintain disaster recovery plan and business continuity plan. Host annual disaster testing and tabletop exercises. Be primary point of contact for network and data center during disaster events
  5. Manage multiple data centers and their redundancy
  6. Manage the relationship and contractual agreements with application service providers and vendors as needed
  7. Actively and continuously follow Change Management processes and procedures as they relate to systems and infrastructure
  8. Provide daily operational support of LSC server, network, and virtualization infrastructure in delivery of IT services
  9. Develop a deliverable methodology to meet our 99.999% availability requirement. Create and maintain standard Operational Level Agreements (OLA) and Service Level Agreements (SLA), to include application, network, data center, business-centric service availability
  10. Implement tools and procedures for monitoring performance and availability
  11. Act as project manager for new and existing IT projects encompassing systems
  12. Establish and maintain processes and procedures for area management. Develop professional development plans for team members (direct and indirect)
  13. Ensure all data/systems backups and archiving are successful and tested
  14. Establish and maintain delivery of security updates and critical patches to systems, and ensure they are physically secure and hardened
  15. Implement and maintain a strategic storage infrastructure, supporting the Information Lifecycle Management methodology
  16. Make recommendations to the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor and CIO with budgetary planning, compliance, and purchase of hardware/software or cloud solutions related to systems support
  17. Responsible for organizational budget and administrative tasks
  18. Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
  • May regularly travel to different LSC locations
  • May be fully reassigned to other LSC locations if necessary
  • May need to work weekends and outside of core business hours if necessary
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 10 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience delivering modern IT infrastructure strategies including hyperconvergence and cloud-based solutions
  • Experience with Cisco Networking and servers, VMWare virtualization, HPE storage and multiple cloud services
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Certifications in Cisco, storage, backup and recovery, or security

· Project management Professional (PMP) Certification

· ITIL Certification

Salary

Hiring salary range is $122,820 - $141,243

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
