Position Summary
Trinity College seeks a staff that reflects the changing demographics of our student body. The Director of Multicultural Affairs provides leadership, strategic oversight and fiscal management for programs aimed at diverse student populations. Collaborates with other key offices across campus in support of institutional diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and partners with other educational institutions and external organizations on related initiatives. The Director manages and facilitates efforts to achieve this mission on behalf of current undergraduate, graduate students, and alumni, as well as prospective student populations including underrepresented students of color, LGBTQIA+ students, women and first-generation students. The Director works closely with colleagues within Admissions, as well as colleagues from the Student Life division in developing targeted recruitment and retention efforts. The Director represents Trinity at internal and external events, is engaged in professional meetings and associations, tracks departmental progress on various metrics, and incorporates best practices into campus initiatives.
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Compliance, the Director will work closely with the division’s units, the Queer Resource Center ( QRC ), the Women and Gender Resource Action Center ( WGRAC ) and Title IX, in support of institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manages financial activity for the Office of Multicultural Affairs ( OMA ) and Promoting Respect for Inclusive Diversity in Education (P.R.I.D.E). Ensures proper stewardship for all departmental budgets. Approves and reviews all financial transactions and contracts for accuracy and compliance.
- Supervises the implementation of programs supported by OMA, supervises the program coordinator for the Promoting Respect for Inclusive Diversity in Education (P.R.I.D.E.) peer mentor program and Cultural House Supervisor, and supervises student office workers.
- Provides guidance and support for the Multicultural Affairs Council of Student Government Association while collaborating with student organizations that engage diverse populations as well as Trinity’s religious groups. Advises and assists student cultural and other student-led organizations with programming. Provides leadership training, helps brainstorm programs, negotiates contracts for speakers and artists, orders posters and assists with publicity. Assists with logistical tasks for events and helps resolve conflicts as needed.
- Provides academic and mentoring advice to students upon request, making well-informed referrals to other campus resources when necessary.
- Serves on campus committees in support of an inclusive community. Actively engages in a leading role in matters pertaining to current and prospective student programs and initiatives.
- Serves as a resource and consultant for other divisions and offices in the development of diversity awareness programming and training for students. Assists all offices providing services and support to various student populations in their efforts to achieve diversity, equity and inclusion and belonging goals.
- Represents Trinity at professional meetings and supports staff/student engagement in external conferences, workshops and meetings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned and based on departmental need.
Master’s Degree – Area of Expertise: Social work, higher education administration, psychology or related field. Candidates with a Master’s degree in progress may be given consideration with expectation of completion. Bilingual preferred but not required.
