Job Summary/Basic Function

The 1890 Land-Grant Programs at Central State University ( CSU ) is seeking a Program Assistant Climate Smart Partnerships Grant focusing on providing technical assistance and organization for farmers. The Program Assistant will also provide support to the Research Associate/Extension Educator, Small Farm Marketing coordinator. The Program Assistant will provide general assistance for demonstration sites for the Climate Smart Partnerships Grant. Travel will be required statewide when necessary. This position is full-time and will be based on Central State University main campus in Wilberforce, Ohio.

This is a five-year USDA / NRCS funded project NRCS # NR243A750004G003. CONTINUATION OF THIS POSITION IS EXPECTED TO 10/31/2028; HOWEVER, IT IS CONTINGENT ON THE ANNUAL RENEWAL OF FEDERAL FUNDING .
  • Provide technical assistance and grant organization for farmers involved with the Climate Smart Partnerships Grant.
  • Support Plant Nutrient Extension Coordinator and Small Farm Marketing Coordinator in activities for the Climate Smart Partnerships Grant
  • General assistance for the demonstration sites for the Climate Smart Partnership Grant.
  • Recruit and supervise student workers for demonstration sites.
  • Use program evaluations and document program impacts.
  • Submit programmatic farm activities and success stories.
  • Assist with Extension programming activities and demonstrations when needed.
  • Other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree or equivalent in Agriculture, Horticulture or related field or commensurate experience.
  • Willingness to work with farmers in urban and rural settings.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to supervise student workers.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle with required liability insurance to be utilized for frequent travel.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional weekends and evenings
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Horticulture, or related field.
  • Experience with specialty crop production, plant nutrients, irrigation, or pest management
