Job Summary/Basic Function

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Farm Operations, the position of Research Farm Laborer will consist of duties to include but are not limited to the following: Operate agricultural equipment for the purposes of research activities. This may include tractors, tillage equipment, planting equipment, fertilizing equipment, etc. Operate soil sampling equipment both on campus and off campus. Hauling materials to both on and off campus sites using a pick-up truck and gooseneck or bumper pull trailer. Operating bush hogs, weed eaters, rototillers, and hand tools to maintain Land-Grant Research areas. Perform routine maintenance on agricultural equipment. Work with research and farm staff to carry out research projects. Complete all necessary forms and paperwork required by the University in a timely manner. Any and all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to demonstrate safe operation of all equipment and tools
  • Ability to communicate well with students, staff and administration
  • Ability to carry out assigned tasks without supervision
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of students and faculty/staff
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of agricultural practices
  • Ability to work in unfavorable conditions and perform physical labor
  • Willingness to learn and grow with the University’s Land-Grant Research programs
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in operation of agricultural equipment
  • Minimum of 1-year experience or vocational training in agricultural related field
  • Basic mechanical and construction knowledge
  • Valid driver’s license and experience towing a trailer
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to repeatedly lift 50 lbs
