History Instructor (Remote)
Temporary Assignment, non-benefits eligible, up to 30 hours per week, $37.00 - $40.00 per hour (depending on region, qualifications and experience).
Stanford Online High School (OHS) is an accredited, diploma-granting independent school, situated within Stanford University, serving students in grades 7-12. In the live discussion seminar, a cornerstone of the Stanford OHS education, students and teachers engage in a rigorous academic program that develops the critical reasoning and argumentation skills essential for success at the collegiate level and beyond. Beyond the classroom, students and instructors continue to collaborate in a dynamic school community, centered on student clubs, activities, competitions, and student publications.
**Please note that the Stanford Online High School and Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies offices are located at the Stanford Redwood City Campus, however this position is Remote. You must be located within the US.**
Stanford OHS is seeking a History Instructor for the 2024-25 academic year to teach one section of a middle school world history course, with the additional possibility of one section of an upper-level high school United States history course. These courses have already been developed. In this role, you will meet with each section twice a week, following a college-style schedule, to foster in-depth discussions of the course material. You are encouraged to bring your advanced subject-level expertise to the class, providing students with challenging educational experiences beyond the typical high school curriculum.
Job Responsibilities:

Prepare for class, lead synchronous online discussions section, and assist students in using course materials. Must be available within time ranges established at the beginning of the term.

Monitor student progress, give feedback, grade assessments, and discuss performance with students, and administrative staff.

Hold weekly office hours with students.

Other duties as assigned.
To be successful, in this position, you will bring:
- MA, or PhD in History or related field
- At least one year experience teaching at the high school or college level, or equivalent.
- Eligibility to work in the U.S. (Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.)
- A reliable home internet connection and the ability to maintain communication with the Department, students, and parents as required and using technology as directed by the Department.
- Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, students and parents.
- Facility with teaching traditional and online courses.
The expected pay range for this position is $37.00 - $40.00 per hour not to exceed 30 hours per week. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
