Job Description

Join KOMU 8 News’ dynamic team as a staff Digital Content Editor, where you'll lead our 24/7 Digital Content Desk. This desk drives the digital publications for KOMU 8 News and works closely with The Columbia Missourian, KBIA and the other Missouri School of Journalism outlets. We’re seeking individuals with a proven track record in creating and editing digital journalism content, coupled with a passion for mentoring students from The Missouri School of Journalism. The Digital Content Editor will be expected to work in a collaborative environment that will regularly include working with multimedia reporters at KOMU 8 as well as other outlets. Key responsibilities include editorial oversight, including copy and video review, as well as supervising student Digital Producers' schedules and providing ongoing feedback. Qualified applicants must also be familiar with relevant digital metrics (e.g. page views, video views, time-spent, impressions, etc.) and relevant social media metrics (e.g. content-reach, engagement)

The Digital Content Editor will be expected to work in the KOMU 8 newsroom editing content from student reporters and optimizing the KOMU 8 digital platforms (website, mobile news app, streaming apps, and social media channels). Additionally, familiarity with the mobile weather app is essential, as occasional assistance to KOMU 8 meteorologists is required to maximize content opportunities in that app.

Given the 24/7 nature of KOMU 8 and its platforms, the Digital Content Editor will oversee student Digital Producer shifts, manage schedules, and will be expected to help during breaking news or severe weather events. Also, participation in event promotion and occasional revenue-generating projects is expected.

The Digital Content Editor will be expected to contribute to the overall digital content strategy including creating short term action plans, setting periodic goals and evaluating progress toward goals including regular analysis of digital and social media analytics.
