Towson University ( was founded in 1866, is recognized by U. S. News & World Report as one of the top public universities in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, is Baltimore’s largest university, and is the largest public, comprehensive institution in the University of Maryland System. TU enrolls over 19,000 undergraduates and over 3,000 graduate students across six academic colleges (business, education, fine arts, health professions, liberal arts, science & mathematics), has almost 900 full-time faculty, and offers more than 65 Bachelor’s, 45 Master’s, and 5 Doctoral programs. Our centrally located campus sits on 330 rolling green acres and is 10 miles north of Baltimore, 45 miles north of Washington, D.C., and 95 miles south of Philadelphia.


Department of Biological Sciences – 2 positions

Assistant Professor, Animal Physiology

Full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in the Department of Biological Sciences with expertise in animal physiology, beginning August 2025. Successful applicants are expected to possess a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, to establish a productive research/scholarly program involving undergraduate and graduate students, and to actively pursue extramural funding for that research. Successful candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in the biological sciences or related field and have postdoctoral experience. The candidate’s research program should be in animal physiology; this may include but is not limited to taking a comparative, ecological, evolutionary, or biomedical approach to animal physiology. Teaching responsibilities may include Animal Physiology, Human Anatomy and Physiology, or other undergraduate and graduate courses in physiology that align with faculty area(s) of expertise. Assistant Professor, Science Education

Full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology with expertise in Discipline-Based Education Research (DBER). This is a full-time appointment beginning August 2025. Ph.D. or Ed.D. in biology, biology education, science education, or a relevant field is required at the time of appointment; demonstrated experience in biology or science education research; potential for or past success securing external funding; demonstrated scholarly activity in the areas of biology or science education; potential or past experience in mentoring students; experience with student-centered evidence-based teaching practices; an ability to teach introductory courses in biology; a demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate; and a commitment to access, inclusion, and diversity in higher education. The successful candidate for this biology education research position is expected to develop a productive, externally funded research program in post-secondary biology education or science education that engages students. The successful candidate will join a thriving community of more than 50 biologists with broad sub-disciplinary diversity and will be expected to contribute to teaching lower-level courses for majors or nonmajors in introductory biology, student intern supervision for secondary science education majors, and content or methods courses for preservice teachers. We seek candidates with an interest in engaging in a collaborative teaching and research environment in support of the academic program of the unit. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the department’s continuing efforts and process relating to building inclusive excellence in science education to promote the success and retention of all students. The successful candidate will have teaching experience at the university/college level, and research experience and/or interests in college science education and assessment.
