Description
The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences in the Jackson School of Geosciences at The University of Texas at Austin seeks to hire a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice in Aqueous Geochemistry and Environmental Science. Primary duties for this position include teaching in-classroom and field courses within our growing undergraduate and graduate curriculum in the areas of aqueous geochemistry, hydrogeology, and environmental science, and overseeing the instrumentation pool for undergraduate instruction. The teaching load is expected to be five courses during our regular academic year and an immersive field course taught during our May Term. Instruction will focus on introductory courses in environmental science, aqueous geochemistry, and field courses in hydrological and environmental field methods. Beyond this, a wide range of course opportunities are possible depending on the candidate's interests. In addition to teaching, additional responsibilities may include facilitating undergraduate research, outreach activities, and maintenance and coordination of an aqueous geochemistry teaching laboratory and a hydrogeology instrumentation pool. There are opportunities for growing these facilities to support measurement capabilities aligned with the candidate's expertise and for the candidate to apply for external funding.
The candidate will join over a dozen faculty in the Water, Climate, and Environment Program within the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences is part of the Jackson School of Geosciences, which includes two closely allied research units, the Institute for Geophysics and the Bureau of Economic Geology. The Jackson School of Geosciences has a community of over 190 research scientists and faculty with a broad range of specialties and access to outstanding research facilities and support. The university is located in the thriving Austin metropolitan area with a vibrant community of over 2 million people.
Compensation: Full time (12-month) salary of $100,000 - $105,000.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment. Ideal candidates will demonstrate potential for effective teaching in classroom and field settings, as well as undergraduate research mentoring, in aqueous geochemistry, hydrology, or environmental science.
Application Instructions
Review of applications will begin June 1 and continue until the position is filled, with a target starting date of January 1, 2025. Interested applicants should submit: a cover letter; CV; teaching statement (no more than 2 pg); research statement (no more than 2 pg), and a list of at least three individuals who would be able to provide letters of reference along with their contact information.
