POSITION SUMMARY
At the Wright Institute, human resources (HR) is focused on what people need and how to provide it. We’re searching for a qualified and resourceful human resources director to partner with Institute leaders and support our departments in ensuring smooth and efficient operations. The HR Director will help with important functions such as staffing, training and development, and compensation and benefits. This role is the singular in-house HR position, but will be supported by external employment counsel and senior HR consultant as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be a strategic and supportive partner to Institute managers and leaders, adapting HR needs and recommendations based on what is right for the organization
- Provide a dedicated and effective HR advisory service to faculty and staff that covers absence and health issues, conduct and capability, grievances, organizational change, and all other employee-relations matters
- Prepare paperwork and schedules for smooth new-hire onboarding process, coordinating with cross-functional departments to deliver an exceptional new hire experience
- Manage onboarding, new-hire orientations, and exit interviews, including data entry in our HRIS and audits for accuracy and compliance
- Assist in the communication, interpretation, and upkeep of employee handbook, employee directory, and organizational chart, and contribute to policy development
- Develop and implement conflict resolution strategies that foster a positive work environment
- Work with Institute staff to ensure annual and periodic performance evaluations are conducted in a timely manner
- Monitor and report on compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Support academic personnel processes such as tenure and promotion, contract renewal, post-tenure review, emeritus status, etc.
- Other duties may be assigned

- Knowledge of Institute, state and federal rules and regulations related to employment & educational organizations

- Ability to learn new technical systems, when necessary
- Aptitude for resolving wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in human resources, business, or related field
- Minimum 7 years of experience in HR roles, with a strong understanding of HR best practices, including but not limited to, employee relations
- Experience in human resources in an institution of higher education desired
