Job Description

This individual will work under the supervision and guidance of the Executive Director for Corporate Relations and in close collaboration with other advancement team members across the university and with members of campus and UM system leadership. This role will focus on:
  • Creating and driving strategy to build on current corporate partners and develop a new prospect pipeline.
  • Bringing new and increased corporate resources to the University.
  • Working with other corporate-facing positions within the University for increased engagement.
  • New and increased corporate support will focus on a holistic, partner-centric model to drive impactful revenue to the university. Support will take the form of:
  • Traditional philanthropy, including gifts, grants, and in-kind fundraising.
  • Student success and undergraduate research opportunities (i.e., capstone projects).
  • Securing degree-seeking or executive education programming.
  • Workforce development programs.
  • Other innovative partnership contributions.
POSITIONS RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising and Strategic Planning:
  • Establish and expand the portfolio of top Fortune 500 companies and national corporations capable of making gifts of $50,000 and above to meet increasingly aggressive fundraising goals.
  • Manage and create a strategic development plan for current corporate partnerships, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
  • Broaden the base by identifying, cultivating, and soliciting new industry opportunities through prospect proposals, travel, and personal visits with industry-related companies and organizations.
  • Maintain a deep and broad understanding of university programs, priorities, and faculty research strengths; use this understanding to seek corporate funding for individual faculty members or university projects or convene multi-faculty intra- or interdisciplinary groups to develop projects that will attract foundation funding.
  • Develop and execute national, regional, and local strategies to engage and involve corporations that can become philanthropic partners with the University.
Collaboration and Teamwork:
  • Effectively match the needs and initiatives of corporations with MU initiatives, serving as an expert liaison for the University community.
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with alumni, community members, and campus colleagues to strengthen and increase the University's ties to corporations.
  • Identify and build relationships with faculty leading research that matches the needs of the corporations.
  • Work across the Advancement team and multidisciplinary faculty and staff to advance collaborations with industry across the University as a Strategic Partner.
Effective Communications:
  • Ensure the quality and timeliness of all communications related to assigned prospects, including but not limited to solicitation proposals and accompanying letters/materials for use in fundraising.
  • Summarize the content of the meetings in timely and accurate call reports entered in the CRM system.
  • Participate in corporate donor activities, including special events and campus visits.
  • Attend campus-wide development staff meetings, unit meetings, and team meetings as necessary, and represent Executive Director of Corporate Relations at meetings and functions when necessary.

Shift

M-F 8 am-5 pm, various travel, including irregular working hours and extensive travel (40%-50%)

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

These skills include, but are not limited to, sales, finance, consulting, non-profit work, higher education experience, etc. We are excited to learn more about you and your experiences.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of three years experience in successfully cultivating and soliciting six-figure foundation gifts is essential.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and wireless service.
  • Higher education fundraising experience.
  • Candidates must display a proven track record of soliciting and closing major gifts in the five- and six-figure range, particularly with corporations and corporate foundations.
  • The capability to work effectively with high-net-worth business leaders is essential.
  • Self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals.
  • Outstanding collaboration as a member of a team and the ability to work independently and with many diverse constituencies should be evident.
  • Strong organizational skills are required, and exemplary interpersonal and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to favorably affect sophisticated volunteers and donors.
  • Other important characteristics include a strong work ethic, personal integrity, emotional intelligence, strategic thinking and planning skills, and a commitment to the mission and values of the University of Missouri
