Job Description Summary:Primarily responsible for managing key e-resource information systems and will be responsible for the production and collection of statistics related to resource (both print and electronic) acquisition, licensing, and usage. Responsible for instruction, reference, and outreach services.

Works with the Director and team in support of strategic planning and participates in divisional and university-wide planning efforts.

Manage key electronic resources (40%)
  • *Responsible for planning, implementation, including application upgrades, configuration, maintenance, integration and troubleshooting and continued evaluation, quality assurance and testing; training and support of library staff

  • *Coordinate with library staff and technical departments to implement and maintain e-resources

  • Coordinate trial, acquisition and renewal activities with publishers/vendors and staff

  • Coordinate user education and outreach on appropriate conditions of use for licensed content

  • Develop a protocol for the acquisition of e-resources

  • *Lead support of ongoing access to electronic information resources for all stakeholders

  • *Partners with campus community to promote critical evaluation and application of openly accessible educational resources within research and curricular endeavors

  • Gathers pertinent information from the campus communities and stakeholders to inform decisions pertaining to training programs, services, and use of Library physical facilities

Instruction and Reference (40%)
  • *Prepares for and instructs, through traditional classroom, distance education modes, and standalone sessions

  • *Develops and updates library instructional and/or promotional materials using a variety of technologies based on usage statistics, user feedback, and new resource roll out

  • *Provide research guidance to students and faculty both individually and in groups

External Relations (20%)
  • Participate in the design and implementation of programs, initiatives, and outreach activities at the University and community level

  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Abilities:
  • *Flexibility and open to change

  • *Familiarity with National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) resources, specifically PubMed

  • Experience with cataloging and instructional technology design

  • *Critically evaluate quality of educational resources

  • *Commitment to outstanding public service, flexibility, initiative, creativity and enthusiasm for teaching and learning

  • *Maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, students, faculty, staff, health care professionals and stakeholders

  • *Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work in a highly collaborative, team-based environment.

  • *Ability to create effective documents and instructional content, not limited to screen shots and video capture

  • *Capacity for continuous improvement of self, and work processes, and a commitment to keeping current with changes to ensure professional skills remain relevant in future learning/library environments

  • *Confidently presents information in a clear and engaging manner, in dealing with patrons one-on-one or groups, in formal and informal settings using appropriate graphics, animation or video

Education/Experience:
  • MLS from an ALA accredited program

  • Previous experience equivalent to three full academic years as a professional librarian in an academic or health science library

Physical Requirements:
  • Must have ability to move about to accomplish tasks across campus

  • Ability to focus on complex tasks for prolonged periods of time in order to complete tasks and projects

  • Ability to understand and communicate complex ideas by means of the spoken and written word

Pay Range:

Annual salary range: $60,350 to $78,450 (exempt)

Samuel Merritt University currently provides base salary ranges for all positions-on job advertisements-in the United States based on local requirements. Individual compensation will ultimately be determined based on a variety of relevant factors including but-not limited to qualifications, geographic location, and other relevant skills.
