Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Clinical Equine Elective Surgery and Lameness, or Health Sciences Assistant/Associate/Full Clinical Professor of Equine Elective Surgery and Lameness.

The Equine Elective Surgery and Lameness Service is comprised of ACVS Diplomates, supported by 3 additional ACVS Diplomates who provide 24-hour emergency coverage. Dedicated large animal imaging faculty work closely with the surgery faculty to manage the sports medicine and lameness caseload. The Equine Elective Surgery and Lameness Service frequently collaborates with the other large animal services (internal medicine, theriogenology, ophthalmology, livestock medicine and surgery) on a variety of surgical cases. There are 4 dedicated equine surgery theaters in addition to a standing surgery suite. The diagnostic imaging service has dedicated ultrasonography, radiography and advanced imaging service areas. Our hospital is equipped with equine anesthetized CT, standing MRI and standing PET. The new imaging center scheduled for completion in 2025 will include equine 3T MRI and dedicated equine large bore CT for use both in anesthetized and standing horses.

The salary range for this position is $163,100 –$307,800. "Off-scale salaries" and other components of pay (i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step) are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience.

Veterinarian with advanced training in equine elective surgery and lameness. Completion of a residency program in equine surgery approved by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS, ACVS-LA) or European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) by the appointment date is required. Board certification in the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS, ACVS-LA) or European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) is preferred. Documented clinical experience and competence in equine elective surgery and lameness is required. Clinical experience and interest in sports medicine and advanced imaging is desirable. Demonstrated aptitude and experience in teaching, particularly clinical instruction, is required. Documented record of creative scholarship or potential to develop a research or clinical program in equine surgery is required for the Professor of Clinical series. Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.

Must be eligible for veterinary medical licensing in the State of California (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846-4857). Individuals must obtain a full CA license (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846) or a University license (California Business and Professions Code Section 4848.1) prior to beginning clinical duties.
