Position Title: Associate Director of Alumni Career Services

Department: Piper Center for Vocation and Career

Reports To: Director

Classification: Exempt FTE: .92 Salary: $54,800 to $61,800

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Develop and grow a program of individual coaching and vocational and career discernment for alumni.
  • Develop a program to provide 1:1 coaching to, and vocational and career discernment for, alumni.
  • Schedule and meet virtually or in person with alumni seeking career support, referrals, graduate school application support, and other assistance across all career stages.
  • Facilitate informational interviewing and networking amongst the alumni population. Conduct in-depth research by industry/position to identify and facilitate appropriate alumni connections.
  • Pilot a group coaching model in partnership with external providers to increase scalability of coaching practice.

2. Collaborate with Alumni & Parent Relations (APR) and the Piper Center to support career programming involving alumni networking and engagement.
  • Support national career trek programming for students through identification of alumni hosts/participants, on-site alumni coaching, and general alumni engagement.
  • Provide support to the Piper Center and Alumni and Parent Relations (APR) to deliver career programs and events to students and alumni.
  • Benchmark comparison institutions, and career services broadly, regarding innovations in service offerings. Assist with implementation as appropriate.

3. Measure effectiveness of alumni career coaching services and enhance offerings as needed.
  • Develop effective metrics for evaluating alumni coaching services. Measure and communicate annually or as requested.
  • Maintain a record of individual career-related appointments with alumni including services used and outcomes as available. Collect feedback on the usefulness of 1:1 career coaching by surveying alumni who used the service.
  • Support, respect, and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community.
  • Complete and meet deadlines for required training and performance management cycle.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule:

Term: Year-round; this position has scheduling flexibility for 4 weeks off during the year on top of vacation (e.g. 4 weeks/days off spread throughout the year or 4 weeks off in the summer) to be negotiated with your supervisor.

Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, with flexibility on work schedule to accommodate alumni appointment needs. Variations to this schedule, or flexible work arrangements, can be proposed and are subject to approval by HR and relevant supervisors; occasional evening or weekend work as need required; travel up to 10% of the work schedule, which includes local (Twin Cities metro area) and national travel.

Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in career coaching/counseling or a background in human resources/recruiting/business or related industry

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Education: Master's degree in relevant field
  • Experience: Background in career coaching in higher education; career counseling with experienced professionals; broad background or a depth of work experience in a range of career fields, experience in program development
