Job Description

The University of Missouri’s Research Reactor (MURR) is seeking an experienced IT professional to join its expanding operation. As part of the Division of Information Technology, this position is embedded at MURR and will have responsibilities supporting advanced workstation/desktop and specialized equipment/instrumentation used in a production and research facility. It is a very team-oriented and collaborative environment consisting of experienced programmers, system administrators, project managers, and workstation support specialists.

Provide end user hardware device support by serving as an information resource related to various device and peripheral systems, including PC, Mac, and mobile device operating systems and application programs. Install, configure, and upgrade end user software and maintain device hardware and operating systems. Consult with end users to analyze their technological requirements.

Provide applications / software support by providing specialized support for MURR specific software as well as University supported email applications, second tier support on approved software and applications, and integrate different computing systems for users if possible and when necessary.

Focus on high-level, professional customer service. Provide training by one-on-one training to faculty, staff, and students in the use of operating system software, supported device software, connectivity to campus networks and servers, and in resolution of complex hardware and software problems; training and mentoring other technical staff in systems support responsibilities, and develop and maintain own knowledge of supported products.

Responsible for working in collaboration with other team members, and other support groups to maintain division wide continuity: Active Directory configurations, system management tools (SCCM and JAMF), backup solutions, file storage, network functionality, and hardware maintenance.

Serve administrative duties by creating, planning, testing, implementing and documenting projects to better serve users’ need; and consult with users regarding commercially available software, site-licensed software, or applications. Maintain advanced knowledge of new products, upgrades, and technologies.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.

3 years of direct desktop/workstation support (hardware/software).
Expansive knowledge of desktop/workstation hardware/software/operating systems (configuration and connectivity).
Excellent technical knowledge and aptitude network file servers, applicable software, and troubleshooting techniques.
Familiarity with systems administration and security principles.
Familiarity with enterprise management technology for Windows and Macintosh platforms Familiarity with Active Directory and SCCM.
Familiarity with installation, maintenance and support of wireless technologies.
Strong verbal and written communication skills sufficient to interact with a variety of users and other technical staff.
Strong customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Anticipated Hiring Range
