Job Summary:

The Electrician is responsible for providing and maintaining electrical requirements in building by installing, repairing and expanding electrical systems.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Determines sequence of installation by studying blueprints, sketches or building plans to identify wiring requirements.
2. Develops working plan by defining material requirements and identifying job requirements.
3. Installs electrical systems by pulling in wiring, installing equipment and electrical devices and performing system start up functions.
4. Maintains emergency and routine electrical power distribution networks by discovering, restoring and repairing faulty or inoperative facility systems.
5. Maintains electrical equipment, systems and building by implementing preventive maintenance programs and schedules for the electrical power distribution network, fire and smoke alarms and sprinkler and other electrical systems.
6. Assists in completing projects by installing and repairing electrical equipment and systems.
7. Maintains electrical systems by performing routine maintenance.
8. Troubleshoots electrical systems by researching and evaluating conditions, advising supervisor and recommending actions.
9. Maintains supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
10. Complies with federal, state and local building codes by adhering to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
11. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
12. Ensures operation of tools and equipment used in the job by complying with preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
13. Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs.
14. Assist any Facilities department as needed.
15. Responds to after-hours emergencies; works during inclement weather; and works to support various events on campus during non-business hours.
16. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• 4 years of electrical service work or related experience.

Preferred Education & Experience:

• 8 years of electrical service work

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

• Valid Texas Driver’s License.
• Must be insurable under the university motor vehicle requirements.
• Satisfactory results from a post-offer physical examination.
• Electrical Journeyman license registered in the state of Texas

• None

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of electrical installation and maintenance practices.
• Knowledge of mechanical, job safety practices, and customer service techniques.
• Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques.
• Knowledge of basic hand tools and related equipment.
• Knowledge of basic record keeping techniques.
• Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
• Skill to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches.
• Ability to verbally communicate technical information.
• Ability to monitor performance of self, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements and take corrective action.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors/outdoors and not sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• This role is an on campus, in-person position.
• May be exposed to work in attics, basements, crawl spaces.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
