Lone Star College-Montgomery, the premiere student-centered educational institution in Montgomery County, serves The Woodlands and Conroe communities. Job Description


Primary purpose is to help students develop skills, behaviors, and habits that contribute to student success outcomes. In order to promote success, services will include: goal setting, learning strategies, time management and organization, self-regulation and self-efficacy, creation of a learning plan, providing information on counseling, financial, and social assistance programs, and reviewing post-school goals to create a "college and beyond" plan. This is a temporary, grant-funded position. Continuation of the position from one academic year to the next is dependent upon continued grant funding.


  1. Fosters persistence and completion by maintaining a student caseload, meeting with students on a regular basis to evaluate and track their academic process and success
  2. Helps students identify and eliminate any barriers to academic success
  3. Monitors the academic progress of students and collaborates with students to develop a personalized action plan tailored to meet their academic and professional goals
  4. Guides students to develop accountability for their decisions and an understanding of how those decisions impact their success
  5. Conducts academic coaching through individual or group sessions that help students assess their own performance and develop academic success
  6. Collaborates with departments, instructors, and support services to meet students' needs
  7. Monitors, evaluates, and tracks student progress; maintains student files and updates all required databases pertaining to each student on caseload in order to determine support needed for academic and professional success. Creates individual success plans for students in cohort group
  8. Models effective study strategies and self-advocacy. Works with students to develop effective study habits, learning strategies, organizational and time management skills by providing workshops each semester
  9. Follows-up with students who receive Early Alerts and helps them strategize on how to get back on track in their classes
  10. Refers students to appropriate academic personnel and support resources and collaborates with others to monitor and accelerate the academic progress of the students who were referred
  11. Serve as an information center for students, directing students to other relevant offices as necessary
  12. Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to adjust plans, techniques, timelines, and goals in order to meet individual students' needs
  • Ability to collect and analyze various forms of student data (assessments, grades, soft skills and academic functioning, etc.) in order to match support and develop effective techniques
  • Strong attention to accuracy and detail for tracking student success and student educational plans
  • Ability to communicate and work well with all levels of students
  • Commitment to quality student service
  • Ability and commitment to work collaboratively
  • Ability to work independently with little direction or continuous supervision

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

  • Schedule will depend on department needs
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
  • Bachelor's degree and 3 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Transcripts and/or a proficiency test may be required
  • Degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field
  • Level III Tutor Certification
  • Experience with case-management
  • Spanish fluency
  • Previous academic coaching or mentoring experience

Hiring salary range is $48,152-55,375.

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
