Director of Facilities Management

The Director of Facilities Management is responsible for all aspects of facilities management including leadership and management of maintenance, plant operations, facilities renovation, capital improvement projects, utilities, custodial services, and grounds. As the Custodian of Campus Master Plan, the Director manages capital projects, supervisors all vendors, contractors and consultants.

This leadership role reports to the Vice President for Finance and Administration and will maintain and develop initiatives that enhance the campus environment to enrich student life, learning, and work environments

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  1. Providing leadership in facilities planning, including renovation projects and new construction and ensuring the University is in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

  2. Implementing approved capital projects, including monitoring of cost and schedule, coordinating all vendors.

  3. Supervising functional areas (maintenance, plant, custodial, and grounds) through key personnel and providing leadership and direction to ensure efficient operation of functional areas.

  4. Managing the Facilities budget and expenditures. Preparing periodic budget estimates and reports and tracking actual expenses verse budget.

  5. Establishing and maintaining a safe work environment by providing safety training and the appropriate personal protective equipment for maintenance, plant, custodial, and grounds personnel and ensuring compliance with OSHA standards.

  6. Administrating the work order system to ensure projects and deferred maintenance are being completed in a timely manner.

  7. Direct preventative maintenance activities of college vehicles.

  8. Answer questions and provide information to staff and the public on facility maintenance and custodial activities; investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints; and keep the Vice President for Finance & Administration duly informed.

  9. Perform such similar, comparable, or related duties as may be required or assigned.

  • Knowledge: Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management or related field required.
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in comprehensive facilities supervision and/or management, ideally in higher education or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Supervisory experience is required.
  • Skills/Aptitude: Must possess strong interpersonal skills, customer services, adaptability, and professionalism. Experience in building construction, alteration, repair methods and materials used in building maintenance; electrical distribution and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment; principles and practices in maintenance management; methods of estimating costs of construction and repair of buildings and grounds including the ability to read and interpret rules and regulations of all regulatory agencies and governing bodies. Effectively direct facility operations in support of University departments and programs. Function independently and professionally in the assigned areas of responsibility and to make sound decisions and to use good judgement.
  • Working Conditions: Indoor and outdoor work required. Extensive walking throughout entire campus on a daily basis is required. Quick and positive reaction in emergency situations. Occasional extended work periods. This position has been identified as having a potential risk for occupational exposure to potentially infectious material; as such, this position is required to be offered the Hepatitis B Vaccine at no cost to the employee, and annual training on Preventing Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens must be completed.
