Reporting to the Deputy Superintendent for Academics and Dean of the Faculty, the Director of Institutional Research, Assessment, and Analytics is tasked with reporting data to state and federal agencies, maintaining a comprehensive survey research program, overseeing faculty course evaluations, and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, especially ones related to assessment of student learning. The Director also serves as the Institute’s SACSCOC accreditation liaison, and as the liaison for assessment to State Council for Higher Education in Virginia.

 

Leading the Office of Assessment and Institutional Research, the Director supports the Institute’s senior executives and key leaders in the achievement of the following objectives:

 

  • Formative and summative assessments of each of the Institute’s major programs and units within these programs.
  • Integration of planning, assessment, and budgeting activities that promotes continuous improvement in operations and educational outcomes.
  • Timely and accurate data submissions to the U.S. Department of Education issued by the Center for Education Statistics (i.e., data for the Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System) and originating from reauthorizations of the Higher Education Act.
  • Compilation and dissemination of the Institute’s fact book.
  • Coordination and submission of US News data.
  • Coordination and submission of student learning outcomes assessment reports mandated by the State Council for Higher Education in Virginia (SCHEV).
  • Facilitation and communication of requirements for compliance with the standards of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Consultation and recommendations for achieving compliance with ABET and AACSB to the Dean of the Faculty and relevant Department Heads.
  • Submission of data reports to National Collegiate Athletic Association on behalf of Intercollegiate Athletics. Maintenance of a comprehensive, Institute-level survey research program that yields useful information for guiding the planning and improvement of operations and cadet learning and development.
  • Timely and accurate responses to ad hoc requests requiring the analysis and reporting of institutional data, as needed for planning, evaluation, and assessment.
  • Service on Institute-level committees and participation in activities that enhance and support the Institute’s mission.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience coordinating higher education assessment and evaluation.
  • The ability to collaborate in developing methods and criteria that are derived from particular contexts and purposes for assessment and evaluation.
  • Superior interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • The ability to communicate complex information to diverse audiences.
  • The ability to adapt easily to changing priorities.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • PhD in a relevant discipline. Experience managing, developing, and evaluating personnel. Experience in higher education leading an office of institutional effectiveness, conducting educational, organizational, or institutional research (e.g., data entry, reporting to state and federal agencies, compilation and dissemination of fact books). Demonstrated interest in broadening and deepening expertise in higher education institutional research, evaluation, and learning outcomes assessment.

This is a full-time, on-site Administrative and Professional Faculty position. The salary is competitive, commensurate with experience. Virginia Military Institute is a state-supported four-year undergraduate military college offering leading academic programs in the liberal arts, engineering, and the sciences.
