Job Summary:

The Center for Student Diversity & Inclusion is seeking an Assistant Director for LGBTQ+ Initiatives & Gender Equity. The Assistant Director for LGBTQ+ Initiatives and Gender Equity is a member of the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion and works with colleagues and stakeholders in supporting students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer, in addition to other identities within the community. The Assistant Director will advocate for inclusion and equity around issues of sexual orientation and gender identity, and facilitate and plan programming centered around LGBTQ+ initiatives. This position is additionally charged with fostering collaborations with various divisions such as academic affairs, enrollment management and student success, and other units within the division of student life.


Duties:

1. Plan, implement and lead programs to increase involvement of the LGBTQ+ student population, including Rainbow Reception, Awareness Days, National Coming Out Day, and Lavender Graduation.
2. Plan, implement and lead programming around gender equity, such as feminist leadership workshops, the Clothesline project, and MakeHerSpace.
3. In collaboration with the CSDI Staff, develop and facilitate trainings for students, faculty, and staff on LGBTQ+ identity and community, as well as on feminism and gender equity.
4. Serve as advisor and collaborate on programming with Spectrum (undergraduate LGBTQIA+ student group) in addition to serving as a resource to other LGBTQ+ groups.
5. Provide interpersonal support for crisis intervention, information, and referral as necessary.
6. Collaborate with and participate in various committees with offices in the Division of Student Life, as well as with university divisions across campus.


Minimum Qualifications:

Master's Degree: Student Affairs Administration, Higher Education, College Personnel, Counseling, Social Science, Gender Studies or related field, earned by first date of employment, with relevant experience working with diverse student populations.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of professional work experience in LGBTQ+, Multicultural/Diversity Affairs, Leadership/Student Development, Student Activities or related fields.
  • Knowledge of student development theory, racial and ethnic identity development, feminist, queer and transnationalism theory.
  • Familiarity with event planning and group facilitation.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Design programs to serve marginalized and historically underrepresented populations
  • Ability to work in a team oriented and collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrate strong computer competence, including but not limited to word, excel, google suite and social media and marketing mediums
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
