The International Student Engagement and Programming Coordinator is responsible for promoting international student engagement, developing programming, enhancing campus experience for all international students (UG and GR) including short term programs, working collaboratively to promote and coordinate communications, and administering the Global Competency Certificate program. The International Student Engagement and Programming Coordinator champions and administers student support services to enhance students' satisfaction and success at Northwood University. Working closely with the International Programs department and Advising department, the International Student Engagement and Programming Coordinator provides leadership supporting international students through programming and community outreach.
Responsibilities
- Support and advance Northwood's Mission, Strategic initiatives, Values, Code of Ethics and Outcomes.
International Student Engagement and Programming:
- Consult with the International Department and coordinate programming that encourages participation by international students (on campus activities, volunteer activities, on campus employment, student committees, etc.)
- Coordinate regular programming events (e.g. Soup & Substance and A Taste of Culture) that showcase international students and the global student population at NU as well as organizing short programs and camps during summer and/or winter
- Develop personal relationships with international students to become aware of their attitudes, interests, needs, and concerns through regular group and/or individual meetings
- Serve as the advisor to the International Student Organization(s)
- Foster international students' engagement in the community at large.
- Serve as NU liaison to community international groups and events
- Organize and plan local transportation to local events and stores so students stay involved and have access to shopping
- Work with student affairs staff to support accommodation of international students within housing, food service, and student life
- Manage the planning and implementation of international orientation at the start of every semester
- Coordinate and assist with the pick-up of arriving international students at the beginning of each semester
- Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) pursuant to US Department of Homeland Security regulations
Global Competency Certificate:
- Coordinate and manage the implementation, execution of, and recruitment for the Global Competency Certificate
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
- Masters degree strongly preferred
- Have 2-5 year experience in student affairs especially working with International Students, event planning and programming.
- Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
- Have excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both written and oral, which transcend diverse audiences.
- Possess working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and other software programs
- Have the ability to work with diverse groups, individuals and cultures.
- Have cross-cultural counseling experience.
- Be highly motivated and solution-orientated with a high degree of integrity, ethics and dedication to the mission of the University.
- Report directly to the Dean of Student Affairs
- Develop and coordinate projects and programs listed above
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- Update SEVIS information as needed
