JOB SUMMARY:

Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to developing a studio of undergraduates, including a multicultural population of first-generation students within the context of a Historically Black, (HBCU), Land Grant, Liberal Arts University.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Duties include teaching private voice lessons to undergraduate students, recruiting and retaining excellent students; and teaching related courses in vocal pedagogy or other areas of interest. Additional duties may be assigned commensurate with the candidate’s expertise and the department’s curricular, service, and community outreach needs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Preference will be given to candidates who possess a record of effective voice studio teaching, significant scholarly/creative contributions, an interest in a broad representation of vocal literature through performance, effective communication skills, a record of performance activity in professional music venues and organizations, and demonstration of ancillary benefits to the department in cross-curricular interests, community engagement, or other skills.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
  • This position does not have supervisory responsibility.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

OTHER DUTIES: To be assigned by supervisor as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must hold a terminal degree in music with an emphasis in vocal performance or related field. (ABD considered; terminal degree must be conferred by the contract start date) and have demonstrated success in recruiting and teaching at the college level. The successful candidate will demonstrate potential for significant contributions to the field through research and creative activity. Candidates who have experience and pedagogy expertise in classical and contemporary styles are especially desirable.
